How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

HGV Class 2 Yard Shunter / Yard Operative – Busy Commercial Vehicle Yard

    Job Type: Permanent, Full-time

    Work Location: On site

    About the Role

We are looking for an experienced HGV Class 2 Yard Shunter / Yard Operative to join a busy commercial vehicle operation in West Drayton.

This is not a traditional Class 2 delivery driving job. You will be based permanently on site and will play a key role in keeping a busy vehicle yard and workshop operation running safely and efficiently.

Vehicles are constantly arriving on site, moving into and out of the workshop, being repositioned around the yard and being prepared for customers. You will be responsible for making sure the right vehicles are in the right place at the right time.

The role would suit an experienced HGV driver who enjoys a fast-paced yard environment, is confident manoeuvring large vehicles in confined areas and takes pride in keeping a busy commercial vehicle operation organised.

You will work closely with the workshop, transport and operational teams, moving vehicles once mechanical work has been completed and bringing vehicles forward when they are ready for customers or further operational use.

HGV Class 2 Yard Shunter / Yard Operative  Key Responsibilities

Safely shunt and manoeuvre HGVs and commercial vehicles around a busy yard.

Coordinate the movement and positioning of vehicles throughout the site.

Move vehicles between the yard, workshop and designated parking areas.

Bring vehicles out of the workshop once mechanical work has been completed.

Position vehicles ready for customer collection, delivery or further work.

Monitor vehicle movements and maintain an organised flow of traffic around the yard.

Keep track of vehicles arriving, leaving, being worked on and awaiting collection.

Work closely with mechanics and workshop staff regarding vehicle priorities and availability.

Reorganise vehicles when required to maximise available yard space.

Manage vehicle arrivals, collections and internal movements.

Carry out daily vehicle checks and report any defects or issues.

Carry out yard inspections and ensure safe access around the site.

Assist with loading, unloading, vehicle positioning and general yard operations.

Maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment.

Undertake manual handling duties, including lifting up to 40kg as part of a two-person operation.

Follow all site health and safety procedures, UK Road Laws and relevant Working Time Regulations.

Ensure vehicles are moved safely and efficiently without causing disruption to workshop or yard operations.

HGV Class 2 Yard Shunter / Yard Operative -What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who is confident, switched-on and highly organised.

The successful candidate will ideally have:

A valid HGV Class 2 (Category C) licence.

    Valid Driver CPC.

    Valid Digital Tachograph Card.

Previous experience driving or shunting HGVs/commercial vehicles.

Previous experience working in a busy yard, depot, workshop, fleet or transport environment.

Good experience manoeuvring larger vehicles in confined spaces.

The ability to work safely around moving vehicles, workshop activity and other yard personnel.

Good awareness of vehicle safety and yard procedures.

Good communication skills and the ability to work closely with workshop and transport teams.

The ability to prioritise and stay organised when the yard is busy.

A reliable, flexible and proactive approach to work.

    Good spoken and written English.

The physical ability to undertake general yard and manual handling duties.

A willingness to get involved and do whatever is required to keep the yard operating efficiently.

Class 1 (Category C+E) licence would be advantageous but is not essential.

HGV Class 2 Yard Shunter / Yard Operative -The Ideal Candidate

    Fleet or transport depot operative

You do not need to be looking for regular nationwide driving work. This is a hands-on, permanently onsite role for someone who enjoys working around HGVs, commercial vehicles and a busy workshop environment.

    Why Apply?

    £17.50 – £18.00 per hour

    £40,950 – £42,120 per annum

    Monday to Friday

    Free onsite parking

    Important

This is a busy, hands-on commercial vehicle yard role. Vehicles will be arriving, leaving, entering the workshop, being worked on and being prepared for customers throughout the day.

We are therefore looking for someone who is comfortable working at pace, can confidently manoeuvre HGVs and commercial vehicles, communicates well with workshop staff and can keep track of multiple vehicle movements and priorities.

If you are an experienced Class 2 driver/shunter who enjoys working in a busy yard rather than spending your day on the road, we would like to hear from you
