How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

CNC Milling Programmer / Setter / Operator

Company: HUM Precision Engineering / Window Machine Tool Company

    Location: Exhall, Coventry

    Employment type: Full-time, permanent

Salary: Up to £20 per hour depending on experience

    About the role
We are looking for an experienced CNC Programmer, Setter and Operator to join our growing engineering business.

The successful candidate will be responsible for programming components using OneCNC CAD/CAM, setting and operating CNC milling machines, and making adjustments directly at the machine using Heidenhain and Siemens controls.

The role will involve manufacturing a wide variety of subcontract components for HUM
Precision Engineering, alongside specialist tooling and machine components for Window Machine Tool Company. This is not a repetitive production position; the work is varied and includes one-offs, small batches and repeat components across a range of materials.

    Main responsibilities

    * Programming CNC milling machines using OneCNC CAD/CAM.

    * Creating efficient machining methods, toolpaths and setup plans.

    * Setting and operating 3-axis and multi-axis CNC milling machines.

    * Using Heidenhain and Siemens machine controls.

    * Editing and optimising programs directly at the machine.

    * Selecting suitable cutting tools, workholding methods, speeds and feeds.

    * Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, tolerances and customer specifications.

    * Producing one-off components, small batches and repeat production work.

    * Proving out new programs safely and efficiently.

    * Inspecting completed components using appropriate measuring equipment.

    * Ensuring components are manufactured accurately and to the required quality.

    * Identifying and resolving programming, tooling and machining issues.

    * Completing route cards and production paperwork accurately at each stage of manufacture.

    * Reporting any incorrect or missing information on route cards and providing useful notes for future repeat manufacture.

    * Carrying out basic machine maintenance and keeping machines and work areas clean and organised.

    * Supporting other members of the workshop when required.

    Skills and experience
    The ideal candidate will have:

    * Previous experience as a CNC Programmer, Setter and Operator.

    * Experience programming with OneCNC CAD/CAM or similar CAD/CAM software.

    * Good working knowledge of Heidenhain controls.

    * Experience with Siemens controls would be advantageous.

    * Strong CNC milling and machining knowledge.

    * The ability to program, set and operate independently.

    * Experience machining a range of materials, including aluminium, mild steel, stainless steel and engineering plastics.

    * The ability to read and understand detailed engineering drawings.

    * Good knowledge of cutting tools, workholding, speeds and feeds.

    * Experience using inspection equipment such as verniers, micrometers, bore gauges and height gauges.

    * A good understanding of machining tolerances and surface-finish requirements.

    * The ability to identify problems and find practical solutions.

Experience with every machine or control is not essential. Training can be provided where required, provided the candidate has a strong CNC machining background and is willing to learn.

    Personal qualities
We are looking for someone who is:
    • Reliable and able to work with minimal supervision.

    • Practical and confident in their machining decisions.

    • Focused on quality and attention to detail.

    • Able to organise their own workload effectively.

    • Willing to share knowledge and work as part of a team.

    • Flexible and prepared to support different areas of the business.

    • Interested in developing their skills as the company continues to grow.

    Additional responsibilities and progression
The exact duties and level of responsibility can be developed around the successful candidate’s experience, strengths and salary expectations. For the right person, there will be opportunities to become involved in more advanced programming, production planning, improving workshop processes, supporting other machinists and taking greater responsibility for jobs from initial programming through to final inspection.

    About us
HUM Precision Engineering is a growing subcontract machining company specialising in precision CNC milling and turning for customers across a range of industries.

Window Machine Tool Company is the specialist tooling and machinery side of the business, manufacturing cutting tools, components and equipment for the window and fenestration industry.

We are a friendly, hands-on company with a varied machine shop and a strong focus on quality, communication and reliable delivery. This is a good opportunity to join a growing business where your experience and ideas will be valued.

    Working hours
    Monday to Thursday: 7:30am–4:30pm
    Friday: 7:30am–12:30pm

    Benefits
    • Competitive pay based on experience.

    • Permanent, full-time position.

    • Early finish every Friday.

    • Varied and interesting machining work.

    • Opportunities for training and career progression.

    • The chance to develop into a more senior role as the company grows.

    • Friendly and approachable working environment.
