A well-established engineering and manufacturing business is seeking an experienced Toolmaker & Mechanical Fitter to join its engineering team and support the manufacture, machining, assembly, installation, and repair of mechanical components and equipment.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled mechanical engineer, toolmaker, or mechanical fitter with strong practical machining experience who enjoys working on a variety of engineering projects and takes pride in producing high-quality work.
You will be based at the company's premises, working from engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions to manufacture components, build machinery, and complete fitting and assembly work to the required quality and safety standards.
There may also be occasional requirements to attend customer or supplier sites to support service work, remedial activities, training, R&D projects, or customer investigations.
Key Responsibilities
Manufacture high-quality components to engineering drawing and specification requirements
Carry out CNC machining, tool setting, drilling, tapping, fitting, and assembly tasks
Manufacture and assemble new machines and mechanical components prior to dispatch
Support machine building projects, spare parts manufacture, and remedial works
Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions
Inspect completed components and ensure work meets required quality standards
Ensure tools, equipment, materials, and PPE are prepared, checked, and maintained correctly
Complete accurate job sheets, records, and site reports within required timescales
Provide technical support and practical input to colleagues and other departments
Identify opportunities to improve machining, fitting, and assembly processes
Follow health and safety procedures at all times
Report accidents, near misses, equipment defects, or other concerns promptly
Provide guidance and mentoring to apprentices and other employees where required
Work closely with engineering, production, and management teams to ensure projects are completed safely and efficiently
Attend customer or supplier sites when required to support service, remedial, training, or development activities
Requirements
Relevant mechanical engineering, machining, toolmaking apprenticeship, or equivalent experience
Proven experience working within an engineering or manufacturing environment
Strong practical experience in machining, tool setting, drilling, tapping, fitting, and mechanical assembly
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
Strong practical mechanical engineering and fitting skills
Sound technical knowledge with good problem-solving ability
Methodical and thorough approach with strong attention to detail
Ability to plan work, manage priorities, and meet deadlines
Good communication skills and ability to work effectively with colleagues, management, and suppliers
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Competent using Microsoft Office 365
Experience using CAD/CAM software, ideally Autodesk Fusion
Full UK driving licence
Minimum of 8 GCSEs or equivalent, including English and Maths
Desirable
Experience within the materials handling industry
Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality management principles
Familiarity with ISO 14001 environmental management principles
IPAF, CSCS, RTITB, First Aid, or other relevant site safety qualifications
Previous experience supporting apprentices or junior engineers
Experience working on machine building or bespoke engineering projects
