How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    We are currently recruiting for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join an established Civil Engineering Contractor delivering a growing portfolio of water and wastewater infrastructure projects across the North East.

    Our client works with major water-sector clients, delivering projects across clean water, wastewater, treatment works, water infrastructure, pipelines and associated civil engineering works.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially driven Quantity Surveyor with water-sector experience to join a strong project team and develop their career within an established contractor.

    The Role

    As Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial management of water and wastewater projects, working closely with the Project Manager, Site Team, Commercial Manager, clients and supply chain to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and profitably.

    Your responsibilities will include:

    Supporting the commercial management of water and wastewater projects.
    Monitoring project budgets, costs, forecasts and cash flow.
    Preparing and maintaining accurate CVRs and commercial reports.
    Preparing applications for payment and supporting the valuation process.
    Identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities.
    Managing variations, compensation events and change control.
    Assisting with the administration and interpretation of NEC contracts.
    Managing subcontractor procurement, payments and final accounts.
    Reviewing subcontractor applications, valuations and variations.
    Supporting the project team with contractual and commercial advice.
    Working with clients and the supply chain to resolve commercial issues.
    Assisting with the preparation and agreement of final accounts.
    Ensuring contractual notices and commercial processes are managed effectively.

    About You

    We are looking for a Quantity Surveyor with a background in the water, utilities or civil engineering sector.

    You will ideally have experience working on projects involving:

    Water and wastewater infrastructure
    Water and wastewater treatment works
    Clean water networks
    Sewer networks and pipelines
    Pumping stations
    Water mains and utilities infrastructure
    General civil engineering associated with the water sectorYou will also have:

    Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering, utilities or the water sector.
    Good knowledge of NEC contracts, particularly NEC3/NEC4.
    Experience working with subcontractors and supply chains.
    An understanding of change management and compensation events.
    Experience with cost control, forecasting and CVRs.
    Strong communication and negotiation skills.
    Good commercial awareness and attention to detail.
    The ability to work collaboratively with operational and commercial teams.A degree, HNC/HND or professional qualification such as RICS would be advantageous, although relevant industry experience will also be considered
