How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job Title: Principal Mechanical Design Engineer

    Location: London (Hybrid)

    The Role: Skilled Careers is exclusively representing a top-tier, global engineering consultancy that is expanding its London operations. We are seeking an authoritative and commercially astute Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to spearhead a dedicated MEP team. This is a strategic hire, focused on delivering large-scale, sustainable commercial builds and premium mixed-use urban regeneration projects.

    What You Will Be Doing:

    Act as the technical lead and primary point of contact for major commercial and mixed-use portfolios.

    Drive the delivery of innovative, low-carbon mechanical engineering solutions, championing net-zero design principles.

    Manage project financials, resource allocation, and fee proposals to ensure commercial viability and profitability.

    Build and maintain robust relationships with key clients, architects, and developers to secure repeat business.

    Provide high-level technical leadership, QA/QC, and strategic mentorship to a team of senior and intermediate engineers.

    About You:

    BEng or MEng in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering.

    Chartered Engineer (CEng) with CIBSE or IMechE.

    Extensive experience within the UK building services sector, with a proven track record of leading multi-million-pound commercial/mixed-use projects.

    Strong commercial acumen and experience in client-facing, business development roles.

    Deep knowledge of the London Plan, BREEAM, WELL standards, and modern sustainable design techniques.
