How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

The successful Senior Design Engineer will work closely with colleagues across the business, as well as external project stakeholders, to ensure design requirements, technical programmes and quality standards are achieved.

    The Role

As Senior Design Engineer, you will manage allocated projects from the design perspective, covering both tender-stage work and live contracts.

    Your responsibilities will include:

Managing the design requirements for allocated projects and ensuring agreed technical programmes are achieved.

Producing and reviewing structural design calculations for steel members, frames and connections.

Undertaking temporary works design where required and ensuring appropriate procedures are maintained.

Checking, managing and signing off design work where required.

Reviewing design and build requirements and determining the appropriate internal or external design resource.

Providing technical support and guidance to other design engineers and trainee design engineers.

Attending internal and external project meetings.

Raising and resolving technical queries with relevant project stakeholders.

Liaising with structural engineers, architects, design managers and other professionals involved in projects.

Coordinating design-related elements involving associated trades such as stairs, slabs, metal decking and cladding.

Monitoring design progress against technical programmes and identifying potential delays and their causes.

    Working within agreed design budgets.

Maintaining the quality and effectiveness of design information provided to the drawing office.

Working in accordance with established quality assurance procedures and agreed design standards.

Supporting continuous improvement within the design function and wider business.

Managing and overseeing design office administration requirements where necessary.

Working closely with other departments to ensure project requirements are met.

Maintaining positive and effective working relationships with clients and project stakeholders.

    Requirements
We are looking for an experienced Senior Design Engineer who is comfortable taking ownership of structural design work and managing the technical requirements of multiple projects.

You should be able to demonstrate:

Strong experience in structural steel design.

The ability to produce and review design calculations for steel members, frames and connections.

Experience of managing design work through to agreed technical programmes.

The confidence to take responsibility for allocated projects and provide technical direction to others.

Experience of working with a range of project stakeholders, including structural engineers, architects and design managers.

A methodical approach to design quality, technical compliance and documentation.

Good communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across different departments and with external contacts.

The ability to work independently whilst also contributing positively to a wider design team.

This is an opportunity for an experienced structural design professional to take a senior position with genuine responsibility for project delivery, technical quality and the development of other members of the design team.
