How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Role: Quantity Surveyor – (Heat Networks/Utilities)

    Location: East London (2-3 days remote)

    Salary: Competitive Salary + Pension/Healthcare

    The Client:

    My client is a prominent and forward-thinking energy infrastructure provider in the United Kingdom, specializing in the design, delivery, and long-term operation of large-scale decentralized low-carbon utility networks.

    The company focuses heavily on urban district heating, cooling, and power solutions, managing critical assets that supply sustainable energy to thousands of residential and commercial properties. Renowned for its engineering excellence and commitment to the green transition, the business integrates cutting-edge technologies like industrial heat pumps and waste-heat recovery systems to drive urban centres toward a zero-carbon future.

    The Role:

    The Quantity Surveyor is responsible for supporting the control of project costs to enhance value for money whilst still achieving the required standards and quality. The Quantity Surveyor will assist the site team in delivering energy infrastructure projects across the business on time and within budget.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Supports the Project Manager in managing project risks and opportunities

    * Demonstrates an understanding of notices and payment criteria

    * Administers the change process in accordance with the contract

    * Supports the avoidance and defence of claims

    * Assists in resolving contractual and commercial problems

    * Compiles supporting information for claims as required

    * Supports project tendering and provides contractual information

    * Drafts professional and accurate letters and notices

    * Completes monthly reports for review by the Commercial Manager

    * Prepares and maintains CVR documentation

    Sub-Contract & Supply Chain Commercial Management

    * Supports the Commercial Manager with the negotiation and appointment of key subcontract and supply chain packages.

    * Assists with drafting and agreeing commercial terms within NEC, JCT or bespoke subcontract frameworks.

    * Maintains strong, professional relationships with subcontractors while protecting the company’s commercial position.

    Project Cost Control & Financial Performance

    * Supports the establishment and management of project commercial baselines, CVRs, forecasts and estimates at completion.

    * Maintains visibility of cost, commitments, change and cashflow throughout the project lifecycle.

    * Provides commercial analysis to Project Managers, highlighting risks, opportunities and required actions.

    * Ensures timely and accurate valuations, applications for payment and subcontract payment processes in collaboration with Finance.

    Change, Claims & Final Account Management

    * Administers commercial change control, including variations, compensation events and claims assessments.

    * Identifies contractual entitlements early and supports their accurate substantiation.

    * Supports dispute avoidance and the early resolution of commercial issues.

    * Supports the negotiation and agreement of final accounts in line with contract terms and approved governance.

    Commercial Governance & Risk Management

    * Applies commercial governance, approval thresholds and controls consistently across projects.

    * Identifies, manages and escalates commercial risks and opportunities through structured project reporting.

    * Ensures commercial activity is undertaken in line with business procedures and delegated authority.

    Technical Skills Required

    * Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction, Engineering or similar

    * Relevant experience in a quantity surveying or commercial role within energy, utilities, infrastructure or construction environments; heat-network experience is desirable

    * Working knowledge of NEC and/or JCT contract forms and subcontract structures

    * Experience supporting subcontract negotiations, cost control, CVRs and final accounts

    * Professional accreditation or progress toward accreditation desirable (MRICS, MCIPS or equivalent)
