How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Are you an experienced Administrator in Hull who enjoys working with numbers and has a great eye for detail? Do you feel confident working with timesheets, checking figures and accurately inputting information onto a system?

Are you looking for a role where you can develop new skills and build your knowledge of payroll, even if you haven't worked in payroll before?

If so, this Payroll Support Administrator job in Hull could be exactly what you're looking for.

This is an excellent opportunity to join an established organisation in Hull as part of a friendly and supportive team. Working closely with the Payroll Manager, you'll provide accurate administration support across a busy payroll service, dealing with a variety of information, timesheets and employee records.

You don't need previous payroll experience for this role. What's more important is that you're confident with numbers, have strong administration and data entry skills and can work accurately with detailed information.

A key part of the role will involve taking information from timesheets and inputting this correctly onto the payroll system, making sure hours, rates and relevant allowances have all been recorded accurately. You'll therefore need to be methodical, comfortable with basic calculations and able to spot when something doesn't look quite right.

This could be a great opportunity if you're currently working in administration, finance, accounts, data entry or another numbers-based role and would like to develop your skills within payroll.

What the Payroll Support Administrator job involves

As the Payroll Support Administrator, you'll provide day-to-day support across the payroll function, including:

Inputting information from employee timesheets accurately onto the payroll system.

Checking hours worked and ensuring the correct rates and allowances have been entered.

Reviewing timesheets and identifying missing, incomplete or potentially incorrect information.

Carrying out basic calculations and checks to ensure payroll information is accurate.

Maintaining accurate employee and payroll records.

Processing new starter and leaver information and keeping records up to date.

Supporting the administration of four-weekly and monthly payrolls.

Maintaining records relating to holidays, statutory payments and other employee information.

Responding to queries in a friendly and professional manner.

Contacting customers when information is missing or needs to be clarified.

Supporting pension administration and maintaining accurate records.

Assisting with information and calculations required for audits.

Maintaining and updating information across internal systems.

Producing reports and ensuring information is recorded accurately.

Handling sensitive personal and financial information confidentially.

Working to regular payroll deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy.

Providing general administration support and helping colleagues when required.

    Skills required

For this role, we're more interested in your numerical ability, accuracy and administration skills than previous payroll experience. You’ll ideally have:

Previous experience within an administration, data entry, finance, accounts or similar office-based role.

Good numerical skills and confidence working with figures.

Experience accurately inputting data and information onto computer systems.

The ability to read and interpret information from documents such as timesheets and transfer it accurately onto a system.

Good basic maths skills with the confidence to check hours, rates, allowances and calculations.

Excellent attention to detail and the ability to spot errors or inconsistencies.

A methodical approach to your work and an understanding of the importance of accuracy.

Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage your workload and work to regular deadlines.

Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.

Good communication skills and the confidence to ask questions or clarify information when something doesn't look right.

A friendly and professional approach when dealing with customers and colleagues.

The ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately.

A willingness to learn and develop your knowledge of payroll.

Previous payroll experience would be an advantage, but it isn't essential as training will be provided

    Other information

    Full-time – 35 hours per week

    Salary of £24,000 per annum

25 days' holiday plus bank holidays

Christmas shutdown, with three days of annual leave reserved to allow for a two-week closure over the festive period

Simply Health healthcare after successful completion of the six-month probation period

Free on-site parking (limited spaces), with free street parking
