How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    About the job

At Metro Supply Chain UK, we're big enough to offer exciting opportunities and long-term stability, but small enough for every individual to make a difference.

With approximately 300 colleagues across our sites in Suffolk, Norfolk, Bedford and Wales, we've built a reputation for delivering flexible warehousing and logistics solutions while maintaining the family-business values we were founded on.

    JOB SUMMARY

We have a new Team Leader role within our Thetford site! This important role supports our team there to ensure we deliver the best service possible to our clients.

This is a good fit for someone who is able to roll their sleeves up and get involved in the physical tasks within the warehouse, while also taking team leadership tasks.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

Within the role, the following are the kinds of tasks and responsibilities that will be included. If you spot something that you’re not able to do, or you haven’t come across before, that is OK. We don’t expect candidates to know how to do everything on this list.

Operating MHE, including Bendi, Counterbalance and PPT, to support daily warehouse operations.

Carrying out core warehouse activities such as goods intake, put-away, replenishment, picking, packing, labelling and despatch.

Acting as a senior presence on the shop floor, providing guidance and support to colleagues throughout the shift.

Helping to organise daily workloads and ensuring resources are in place to meet operational requirements.

Monitoring productivity and accuracy to ensure customer service standards are achieved.

Supporting stock accuracy through effective inventory control and operational discipline.

Promoting a positive safety culture by ensuring colleagues follow site procedures and safe working practices.

Completing daily MHE checks and maintaining high standards of housekeeping across the warehouse.

Supporting the training and development of team members and helping to motivate colleagues to perform at their best.

Assisting Supervisors and Managers with day-to-day operational challenges and continuous improvement initiatives.

    Providing Supervisor/Manager cover when required

    Health and Safety

Without compromise maintain a safe and clean work environment.

Report any hazards in the workplace to management immediately.

Complete all training provided in a timely manner.

Follow all laws and policies applicable.

Customer Service and Our Way Culture

As a team member, work collaboratively with Metro employees in a team-oriented environment.

Have an exceptional customer service attitude.

Look for ways to say “Yes” to the customer (internal and external).

Promote and support social initiatives driven by other team members.

Follow established processes and, where applicable, help achieve customer Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Bring a continuous commitment to your quality of work.

Be approachable and show a positive interpersonal style.

    Maintain open honest relationships.

    EXPERIENCE:

Previous experience in a warehouse environment.

MHE experience, ideally including Bendi, Counterbalance and PPT licences (or the willingness to refresh/cross-train).

Experience supporting, mentoring or coordinating colleagues on shift.

A good understanding of warehouse health & safety requirements.

Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads.

Good attention to detail and a focus on accuracy.

A proactive approach with the confidence to solve problems and make decisions on the shop floor.

We are an equal opportunity employer committed to building and fostering a diverse workplace where people feel included and valued. We encourage applications from all qualified individuals.
