How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Working within the Asset and Sustainability directorate, you will oversee designated fire risk assessment actions and make sure works are completed correctly and within prescribed timescales. Analysing building defects and recommending appropriate remedial solutions
Preparing detailed specifications for repairs in line with current legislation and standards
Obtaining quotations and estimates in accordance with procurement procedures
Monitoring contractors and consultants against quality, safety, budget and performance requirements
Carrying out quality-control inspections and pursuing corrective work where required
Completing health and safety spot checks and reviewing compliance with risk assessments and method statements
Maintaining accurate records of site progress, variations, snagging and health and safety matters
Providing technical advice on construction, building defects and fire safety matters
Reviewing drawings and specifications for new developments
Managing complaints and providing clear written responses
Building effective relationships with residents, colleagues, contractors and other stakeholdersAbout you You must have demonstrable experience working as a fire or building surveyor within a maintenance environment, including responsibility for pre- and post-inspections. A NEBOSH Fire qualification or equivalent is essential, together with working knowledge of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

    You will also need:

Experience working with contractors using SOR and non-SOR contracts
The ability to produce detailed specifications of work
Strong knowledge of building regulations, health and safety legislation, relevant codes of practice, standards and materials
In-depth understanding of construction, design and fire or construction-related defects
Knowledge of procurement law, different forms of contract and contract management
Good IT skills, including the ability to use mobile technology
Strong communication, negotiation, organisation and problem-solving skills
A full driving licence and access to your own vehicleMembership of RICS, CIOB, IFE or a similar professional organisation would be advantageous, as would experience working with a direct labour force.

This is a hybrid role based around Horsham, but regular travel between sites across the regional patch is essential. Site visits may include working at height or using ladders. DBS safeguarding clearance will be required, and occasional attendance outside normal working hours may also be necessary.

If you are an experienced fire safety professional who combines sound technical judgement with a practical, resident-focused approach, we would be pleased to hear from you. Apply with your latest CV to discuss the opportunity
