How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    ABOUT THE ROLE

    Stevenage Borough Council is committed to providing safe, healthy and high-quality homes for our residents. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Lead Surveyor - Damp & Mould to lead the delivery of our specialist damp, mould and condensation service within our Housing Property Services Team.

    This is a key leadership position responsible for managing the Council's approach to damp and mould across its housing stock, ensuring residents receive a professional, proactive and customer-focused service. You will lead a team of surveyors, oversee complex cases and provide technical expertise to identify defects, develop practical solutions and ensure works are delivered to a consistently high standard.

    As Lead Damp & Mould Surveyor, you will work closely with residents, contractors and internal stakeholders, you will manage projects from diagnosis through to completion, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, health and safety legislation and best practice standards. You will also play a leading role in complaint resolution, disrepair case management and service improvement initiatives as we continue to strengthen our response to damp and mould in preparation for changing regulatory requirements.

    ABOUT YOU

    The successful candidate will have the ability to:

    • Carry out detailed damp, mould and condensation inspections and surveys.
    • Diagnose complex building defects and identify practical, cost-effective solutions.
    • Prepare specifications, schedules of work, technical reports and estimates.
    • Lead and manage a team of surveyors, ensuring performance, quality and customer service standards are achieved.
    • Manage contractors, consultants and specialist suppliers to deliver high-quality outcomes.
    • Oversee projects from inception through to completion, including procurement and contract management.
    • Provide technical advice on damp and mould, building defects, disrepair and building pathology.
    • Manage complaints and disrepair cases, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
    • Monitor contractor performance and ensure works are completed to specification.
    • Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, CDM Regulations and relevant housing standards.
    • Manage budgets and validate contractor payments and quotations.
    • Build positive relationships with residents and stakeholders whilst dealing effectively with challenging situations.
    • Analyse performance data and contribute to service improvements, policy development and strategic planning.
    • Deputise for the Disrepair, Damp & Mould Manager when required.
