How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Senior Quantity Surveyor – Major Data Centre Project – Northern Home Counties

    Salary/Package: £80,000 – £95,000 + £5,000 Car Allowance + Discretionary Bonus + Pension + Private Medical + Benefits

    O’Neill and Brennan are currently working with a leading principal contractor who are looking to appoint an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team on a major data centre project in the Northern Home Counties.

    The successful candidate will be joining a large-scale project with a total value in excess of £2bn, taking responsibility for the commercial management of key packages and working closely with the wider project and commercial teams to ensure the successful delivery of the scheme.

    Previous experience working on data centres or within the MEP sector is not required for this position. The client is primarily looking for a strong commercial professional with a solid understanding of commercial processes and proven experience working for a principal contractor within the built environment.

    This is an excellent opportunity to join a major contractor on one of the largest and most significant projects in the current UK market, offering a competitive package and excellent long-term career progression.

    Start: ASAP, but can wait for the right person
    Type: Permanent
    Responsibilities:

    Taking commercial responsibility for key packages across a major £2bn+ data centre development
    Procuring and commercially managing subcontract packages from tender through to final account
    Preparing subcontract enquiries, tender analysis, negotiations and recommendations for award
    Managing subcontractor payments, valuations, variations and final accounts
    Monitoring project costs, forecasting expenditure and maintaining accurate commercial reporting
    Identifying commercial risks and opportunities and implementing appropriate cost-control measures
    Working closely with project managers, construction teams, design teams and other commercial team members to ensure successful project delivery
    Building and maintaining strong relationships with subcontractors, consultants and other project stakeholders
    Ensuring commercial processes and procedures are followed throughout the project lifecycle
    Supporting the wider commercial team with the successful delivery of this major project
    Requirements:

    Proven experience working as a Quantity Surveyor/Senior Quantity Surveyor within a principal contractor or main contracting environment
    Strong understanding of commercial processes and procedures
    Previous experience working within the built environment is essential
    Experience commercially managing subcontract packages from procurement through to final account
    Strong commercial awareness with excellent negotiation and communication skills
    Data centre or MEP experience is not essential and full sector-specific experience is not required
    Ability to operate effectively within a large project and commercial team
    Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple commercial priorities
