How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    This is a second line role, providing independent advice, challenge, assurance and oversight across the business. You’ll work closely with colleagues at all levels to help manage privacy risk, embed good data protection practices and ensure we continue to meet our regulatory obligations as the business evolves.

    It’s a varied role that will give you exposure across AJ Bell, combining technical data protection expertise with stakeholder engagement, risk management and governance.

    What you’ll be doing:

    * Providing clear, practical data protection advice and guidance to stakeholders across the business.

    * Reviewing and advising on Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for new initiatives, products, systems and changes.

    * Supporting the management of personal data breaches, including investigation, risk assessment, reporting and remediation.

    * Reviewing and advising on data subject rights requests, helping to ensure they are handled effectively and within statutory timescales.

    * Producing monthly privacy MI, identifying trends and providing meaningful insight to support effective oversight and decision-making.

    * Supporting the preparation of the Annual Data Privacy Report and other governance and committee reporting.

    * Providing appropriate challenge and oversight of privacy risks, controls and compliance activities.

    * Supporting privacy training and awareness initiatives across the business.

    * Monitoring changes in data protection legislation, regulatory guidance and industry best practice, assessing what these mean for AJ Bell.

    * Contributing to the ongoing development and continuous improvement of AJ Bell’s privacy framework and approach.

    What we’re looking for:

    * Strong technical knowledge of UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and PECR, alongside practical experience applying data protection requirements within an organisation.

    * Experience working in a data protection, privacy, risk or similar compliance role.

    * Experience within financial services or another regulated environment.

    * Practical experience of DPIAs, personal data breaches and data subject rights requests.

    * A good understanding of privacy risk management and effective privacy controls.

    * The ability to interpret legislation and regulatory requirements and translate them into clear, pragmatic advice.

    * Strong stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to appropriately challenge and influence colleagues at different levels.

    * Experience producing management information, trend analysis and governance reporting.

    Ideally, you’ll hold a recognised data protection or privacy qualification such as:

    * BCS Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection (formerly ISEB Certificate in Data Protection)

    * CIPP/E

    * CIPM

    * Or an equivalent professional qualification
