How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Working Hours: Monday – Friday, 08:30 – 17:00, with flexibility when required

Freight Force Recruitment Ltd are acting as an Employment Agency in relation to this vacancy.

    The Company

Freight Force Recruitment are working in partnership with a leading provider of transport, logistics, and freight forwarding solutions across the UK and Europe. Established in 2003, operating from strategically located depots, the company delivers tailored supply chain services with a strong focus on reliability, efficiency, and customer service excellence.

    The Role

This is not a typical Internal Sales or Transport Operator role.

We are looking for a commercially driven logistics professional who understands transport from an operational perspective but also can identify opportunities, develop customer relationships and maximise profitability.

The ideal candidate will come from a road transport or contract logistics background, with experience across operations, key account management and commercial development. You will be confident reviewing existing transport activity, identifying opportunities to improve load efficiencies and margins, developing internal and external business opportunities, and building strong relationships across customers, hauliers and logistics partners.

Working closely with the wider operational and commercial teams, you will play an important role in helping the business maximise its existing customer base while identifying new opportunities for growth.

    Key Responsibilities

    - Source, negotiate and manage subcontractor and haulage solutions in line with operational and customer requirements.
    - Build and maintain strong working relationships with hauliers, customers and logistics partners.
    - Manage and develop opportunities across freight exchange and transport platforms.
    - Identify opportunities to improve margins, increase load and vehicle utilisation, and improve overall operational efficiency.
    - Review existing transport activity and identify opportunities to maximise profitability and reduce unnecessary costs.
    - Develop additional revenue opportunities across existing customer accounts and through new business activity.
    - Support business development both internally and externally, identifying opportunities to increase turnover and strengthen customer relationships.
    - Take ownership of key customer accounts, ensuring a high level of service while identifying opportunities to develop the relationship commercially.
    - Maintain consistently high levels of customer service and communication throughout all operations.
    - Negotiate competitive rates with subcontractors and suppliers while protecting company margins.
    - Ensure all activity is delivered in line with company procedures, customer requirements and relevant industry standards.
    - Work collaboratively with internal teams to ensure operational and commercial objectives are achieved.
    - Monitor market conditions, supplier availability and transport capacity to support effective commercial decision-making.

    Candidate Requirements

    - Proven experience within road transport, contract logistics, freight forwarding or a similar operational logistics environment.
    - Strong operational understanding of UK and/or European road freight movements.
    - Previous experience in a commercially focused transport role, with the ability to understand costs, margins and profitability.
    - Experience managing key customer accounts and developing strong commercial relationships.
    - A proven ability to identify opportunities to improve load efficiencies, vehicle utilisation and operational performance.
    - Commercially minded with the confidence to identify and develop new business opportunities.
    - Excellent negotiation, communication and relationship-building skills.
    - Experience working with subcontractors, hauliers and transport suppliers.
    - Experience using freight exchange and transport platforms would be advantageous.
    - Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to make informed decisions in a fast-paced environment.
    - Highly organised, motivated and capable of managing multiple priorities.
    - A proactive approach with the drive to make a tangible commercial impact on the business.

    What We Offer

    - The opportunity to join an ambitious and expanding logistics organisation.
    - A genuinely varied role combining operations, commercial development, account management and business growth.
    - Genuine opportunity to grow with the business and progress into a senior position.
    - Access to established freight platforms, suppliers and customer accounts.
    - Supportive working environment with experienced operational guidance.
    - The opportunity to have a direct impact on margins, efficiency and business growth.
    - A dynamic and commercially driven position offering long-term career development opportunities.
    - 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays.

    About the Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced transport professional who is ready to move beyond a purely operational position and take on a role with greater commercial responsibility, autonomy and influence.

If you understand how transport works operationally but also have the commercial awareness to identify where the business can make more money, operate more efficiently and develop its customer base, this could be an excellent next step in your career
