How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Site Manager to support the delivery of a major 400kV substation project at Walpole.

The business has extensive experience delivering high-voltage transmission and distribution projects and operates within a highly regulated environment where safety, quality, technical excellence and programme delivery are critical.

You will produce site reports and provide timely information to the wider project team, monitor subcontractor performance and ensure agreed production levels are achieved. The role will also involve supporting the implementation of Safe Systems of Work, including the issuing of Permits to Dig where required.

You will be expected to lead by example across health, safety, quality and environmental management, while promoting best practice and ensuring lessons learned and good practice are fed back into the wider business.

The successful candidate will also support quality assurance activities, maintain project standards and assist with the production of as-built information. You will work closely with the Site Manager and wider project team to ensure client requirements and agreed KPIs are consistently met or exceeded.

    * Good understanding of Safe Systems of Work and setting-to-work procedures

    * Relevant health and safety qualifications such as SMSTS, SSSTS or IOSH

    * CSCS or equivalent site safety qualification

    * Full UK driving licence

    Desirable

Previous experience of major National Grid transmission projects, together with experience in temporary works, Permits to Dig, quality assurance and the production of as-built information, would be advantageous.

    Working Pattern

This is a full-time, site-based position at the Walpole 400kV Substation. The project is expected to provide a 6-month rolling contract, offering good continuity for an experienced site professional.

If you have strong National Grid experience and are looking for your next site management opportunity within a major transmission project, please get in touch.
