How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Role: Laser Marking & Finishing Technician
    We invite you to join our highly skilled and flexible manufacturing team.
    Sheffield Precision Medical (SPM) is looking for someone with experience in laser marking or a related precision manufacturing environment to join our skilled manufacturing team.
    This is an excellent opportunity for someone with Laser-Marking experience who enjoys working on a challenging and varied product range, and wants to develop and apply their skills across Fibre and Diode laser machinery, in conjunction with final product processes; cleaning, passivation and packaging.
    You'll work in a clean manufacturing environment with complex machinery, taking responsibility for setting, operating and programming CNC Laser-Marking machines while maintaining consistently high standards of quality and output.
    The Role at a Glance
    Position: Laser Marking & Finishing Technician
    Shift pattern: Standard Day-shift - 07:00–15:00, Monday–Friday
    The Laser Marking & Finishing Technician will be primarily responsible for the programming, set-up and operation of laser marking equipment used to mark orthopaedic implants, medical devices and other company products. The role requires a high level of accuracy and attention to detail to ensure markings meet customer specifications, technical requirements and applicable quality standards.
    The role will also support associated final finishing activities, including component cleaning, nitric passivation and final visual inspection, as required.
    You won't be expected to know everything from day one. You'll be supported by experienced colleagues who are happy to share their knowledge, and we encourage people to ask questions and learn from each other.
    Duties & Responsibilities
    The successful candidate will have responsibility for, but not be limited to:
    Laser Marking
    • Programme, set up and operate laser marking equipment to produce accurate, consistent and clearly defined markings.
    • Read and interpret technical drawings, customer specifications and marking requirements.
    • Accurately set up components and fixtures to achieve the required marking position, orientation and repeatability.
    • Mark a variety of product features including identification numbers, customer logos, rule scales and other customer-specified information.
    • Load and unload components safely and accurately, maintaining consistent positioning to achieve repeatable marking quality.
    • Inspect laser markings for visual, cosmetic and dimensional quality, ensuring they meet customer and company requirements.
    • Identify and resolve routine laser marking issues and make appropriate process adjustments to maintain quality and consistency.
    • Perform machine alignment and optical cleaning as required to maintain equipment performance.
    • Complete daily machine start-up and shutdown procedures.
    Quality & Traceability
    • Comply with company Quality Assurance procedures, work instructions and applicable customer requirements.
    • Complete production and quality records accurately to maintain full product and process traceability.
    • Maintain a strong focus on accuracy, consistency and attention to detail throughout the marking process.
    • Identify and report any quality issues or non-conformances in accordance with company procedures.
    Final Finishing Activities
    • Support final component cleaning and nitric passivation activities as required.
    • Assist with final visual inspection of components and finished products as required.
    • Maintain a clean, organised and controlled working environment in accordance with company standards and quality procedures.
    General Responsibilities
    • Achieve agreed production schedules whilst maintaining required quality standards.
    • Maintain equipment and the working area to the required standard.
    • Work effectively with colleagues and other departments to support production requirements.
    • Undertake other reasonable duties in line with business requirements and the individual's skills, experience and training
    • Identifying and resolving machining and quality issues.
    • Working independently to meet customer deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality.
    • Working collaboratively with colleagues to maximise production output and machine utilisation.
    • Supporting a culture of continuous improvement and helping the team achieve its goal of being the best in the business.
    • Following good manufacturing practice, company procedures and health and safety requirements.

    Work Pattern
    • 7am-3pm Mon-Fri
    • Brake-time - ½ Hr Lunch-break
    • (¼ Hr Breakfast-break gesture if starting at 7am or before)
    • Over-time Rate - Mon-Sat: x1.5 / Sun: Double-time
    • Company Bonus - Company Out-put/Performance dependant
    • Holiday Allowance - 26 Days + 8 Statutory (34 / Yr)
    • Pension Plan - State : Company 3% / Employee 5% (Auto-enrol, Opt-out optional)
