How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Pre-Construction Technical Manager
    Location: Central London - St Paul's
    Salary: £75,000 - £85,000 + Travel Expenses + Benefits

    An established and highly regarded demolition, civil engineering, earthwork and specialist enabling works contractor is seeking an experienced Pre-Construction Technical Manager to join its growing pre-construction team based in Central London.

    The business is open to candidates currently operating within either a Pre-Construction Manager or Technical Manager capacity, with the key requirement being strong pre-construction experience and a technical understanding of civil engineering, earthworks and complex construction projects.

    The successful candidate will play a key role in the technical development of complex tenders, working alongside Pre-Construction Managers, Estimators, Designers, Programmers and Bid Managers to develop practical, technically robust and commercially competitive solutions.

    Projects range from circa £1m demolition, soft strip and clearance schemes through to £40m+ complex industrial projects, including high-rise top-down demolition, high-reach demolition, major industrial deconstruction and associated infrastructure, basement construction and civil engineering works.

    Pre-Construction Technical Manager Job Overview

    Lead the technical development of complex tenders, helping to develop practical and deliverable construction solutions
    Review and unpick Invitations to Tender, identifying technical requirements and distributing information to the appropriate internal and external disciplines
    Coordinate and manage technical responses throughout the tender process, ensuring information is prioritised and delivered in line with the overall tender programme
    Develop construction methodologies, sequencing and delivery strategies
    Produce Temporary Works Design Briefs
    Develop Outline Method Statements to support tender submissions
    Support PQQ submissions and provide technical responses to the Bid Management team
    Coordinate internal design resources, programmers, 4D/3D/2D technicians, Bid Managers, external consultants and other technical specialists
    Manage subcontractor quotation teams to develop competitive programmes and pricing
    Lead site walks to understand project constraints, risks and opportunities and develop appropriate tender strategies
    Support successful projects through pre-construction and ensure technical solutions can be effectively transferred into project delivery

    Pre-Construction Technical Manager Job Requirements

    Previous experience within a Pre-Construction Technical Manager, Pre-Construction Manager, Technical Manager, Construction Manager, Design Manager, Engineering Manager or similar technically focused construction position
    Strong background within civil engineering, structural works, demolition, enabling works, infrastructure or complex construction projects
    Previous site-based experience within RC / build environments, with Civil or Structural
    Industrial and/or infrastructure project experience would be highly desirable
    Strong understanding of construction methodology, sequencing, buildability and project delivery
    Experience reviewing tender documentation and developing technical solutions during the pre-construction stage
    Ability to develop construction sequences and programmes to identify efficient working methods
    Experience using Asta or similar programming software
    Good understanding of Temporary Works and experience preparing or contributing to Temporary Works Design Briefs
    Confident preparing and delivering presentations to clients and multidisciplinary teams
    Relevant Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management or industry-related degree / higher-level qualification

    The successful candidate will join an established pre-construction function, working alongside experienced Pre-Construction Managers, Estimators and an extensive technical/design resource.
