How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Position: Mechanical Design Engineer
    Location: Calne, Wiltshire
    Salary: £30,000 - £38,000 Depending on experience

    Our client is a well-established engineering and manufacturing business specialising in complex mechanical and hydraulic machinery. Due to continued development, they are seeking an experienced Design Engineer to join their design team.

    This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with a mechanical and hydraulic design background to take ownership of projects from initial concept through to production, while providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers.

    Mechanical Design Engineer Position Overview

    Design and develop mechanical and hydraulic systems from initial concept through to production release.
    Produce accurate 3D CAD models, manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings and Bills of Materials.
    Develop hydraulic circuits and carry out pressure, flow, force and power calculations to validate system performance.
    Design welded fabrications, machined components and complete hydraulic systems with consideration for functionality, safety and manufacturability.
    Lead prototype development, testing and validation activities, working closely with workshop and production teams.
    Raise and manage Engineering Change Requests and Engineering Change Orders.
    Liaise with suppliers, customers and internal departments regarding technical specifications, component selection and product improvements.
    Take ownership of assigned engineering projects, managing technical risk, priorities, validation and delivery milestones.
    Review engineering drawings, Bills of Materials and technical documentation produced by other members of the team.

    Mechanical Design Engineer Position Requirements

    Proven experience working as a Design Engineer within a mechanical engineering environment.
    Advanced 3D CAD capability, ideally with Autodesk Inventor.
    Experience designing welded fabrications and machined components.
    Working knowledge of Machinery Regulations and UKCA requirements is desirable.
    Good understanding of manufacturing processes and practical engineering.
    Commercial awareness and understanding of engineering cost implications.
    Confident working with minimal supervision and taking ownership of technical decisions.

    Mechanical Design Engineer Position Remuneration

    Salary £30,000 - £38,000 - depending on experience
    Monday to Thursday 08:00 - 17:00. Friday 08:00 - 14:00. 40 hour working week.
