How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Legal Counsel

London / Hybrid (3 days in the office, 2 days from home)

    £100,000 - £110,000 + Excellent Benefits

Sellick Partnership is delighted to be working with a leading international construction and engineering business to recruit a Senior Legal Counsel.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly regarded in-house legal team supporting complex construction projects across the UK and Europe.

Working closely with the Head of Legal, you'll become a trusted legal adviser to the business, partnering with commercial and project teams on high-value construction projects while enjoying genuine autonomy and the opportunity to broaden your involvement beyond purely legal work.

Senior Legal Counsel – Role Overview

This is a broad, commercially focused in-house role, with around 80% of the work centred on reviewing and negotiating construction contracts. You'll primarily advise on JCT contracts, while also supporting projects involving NEC and FIDIC contracts where required.

Alongside contract work, you'll provide strategic legal advice throughout the project lifecycle, support project teams on commercial issues and contribute to wider legal initiatives across the business.

The role offers excellent exposure to senior stakeholders and would suit a construction lawyer looking to play a more visible role within an international business.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Review, draft and negotiate construction contracts, primarily JCT with exposure to NEC and FIDIC
    • Provide commercially focused legal advice throughout the lifecycle of construction projects
    • Support project teams during tender negotiations and live project delivery
    • Advise on contractual risk and prepare practical risk mitigation strategies
    • Support project advisory work and commercial decision making
    • Assist with construction-related claims and disputes where required
    • Manage warranties, guarantees and wider contractual documentation
    • Liaise with external legal advisers on specialist matters
    • Contribute to legal compliance, policies and internal best practice
    • Build strong relationships with stakeholders across commercial, operational and leadership teams

    Requirements:

    • Qualified Solicitor ideally 3+ yrs PQE
    • Strong UK construction law experience gained within a leading law firm or highly regarded contractor
    • Excellent working knowledge of JCT contracts, with exposure to NEC and/or FIDIC
    • Strong commercial drafting and contract negotiation skills
    • Comfortable working independently and acting as a trusted adviser to the business
    • Previous in-house experience is welcomed but not essential
    • Strong technical ability and a genuine interest in construction law

    What's in it for you:

    • Salary of £100,000 - £110,000
    • Discretionary annual bonus
    • Hybrid working (3 days in the London office, 2 days from home)
    • Pension contribution
    • Private healthcare and additional wellbeing benefits
    • Significant autonomy and exposure to senior stakeholders with the opportunity to attend client meetings and broaden your commercial involvement
    • Excellent long-term career progression within an international business

    How to Apply:
