Edge Bander Operator

Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Edge Bander Operator to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for operating edge banding machinery to apply decorative edging to panels and boards, ensuring high-quality finishes and efficient production flow. You will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining the edge banding machinery to produce high-quality finished panels to specification. This role is essential to the smooth running of the joinery production process, ensuring consistent accuracy, finish, and efficiency in line with company standards to contribute directly to delivering top-tier products that meet customer specifications. This position offers an exciting opportunity to develop your skills in fabrication and machinery operation within a dynamic manufacturing environment.
Duties
Machine Operation:
* Set up and operate automatic edge banding machines (e.g., Homag, SCM, Holz-Her, or similar).
* Apply edging materials (ABS, PVC, veneer, melamine) to panels according to drawings or production schedules.
* Ensure correct machine parameters for thickness, feed speed, and trimming are maintained.
Quality Control:
* Check edge finish, adhesion, alignment, and trimming quality against design specifications.
* Identify and correct defects or inconsistencies.
* Maintain a clean, precise edge finish with attention to detail.
Maintenance & Safety:
* Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and blade changes as per the maintenance schedule.
* Report machine faults or breakdowns promptly to the maintenance team.
* Follow all company Health & Safety and environmental procedures.
Production Support:
* Read and interpret technical drawings and cutting lists.
* Work collaboratively with CNC operators, assemblers, and finishers to maintain workflow.
* Record production data, material usage, and wastage accurately.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
* Proven experience operating an edge banding machine in a joinery, furniture, or panel processing environment.
* Strong understanding of woodworking machinery, materials, and edge banding processes.
* Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
* Good attention to detail and quality standards.
* Reliable, punctual, and capable of working independently or as part of a team.
Desirable:
* Experience with Homag/SCM edge banders and PUR glue systems.
* Forklift licence.
* Basic maintenance and troubleshooting experience.
