How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    šŸ• Permanent | Full-Time

    The Opportunity

An established niche manufacturing and engineering business in the Hull area is looking to strengthen its design capability and is interested in speaking with experienced Design Engineers.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong background in SolidWorks and manufacturing design who enjoys seeing their designs progress from initial concept through to manufacture and finished product.

The business produces specialist engineered equipment for customers across a range of sectors, with design, manufacturing and engineering working closely together from one site.

Salary is fully negotiable based on experience, and applications are welcomed from candidates at varying stages of their design career, providing they possess the core technical skills required.

    Key Responsibilities

Produce detailed 3D models and engineering designs using SolidWorks
Create accurate manufacturing and fabrication drawings
Design sheet-metal and fabricated components and assemblies
Develop designs from initial concept through to manufacture
Produce and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs)
Apply Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles
Work closely with fabrication, production and engineering teams
    Develop customer-specific engineered solutions
    Review and modify existing designs
Manage drawing revisions and technical documentation
Support projects through the manufacturing process
Consider materials, tolerances, manufacturing methods and practical assembly requirements
Provide technical support to production when required
Contribute ideas around product development and continuous improvement

    Essential Experience

To be considered, you will need:

    Strong working knowledge of SolidWorks
Experience producing 3D models and detailed manufacturing drawings
Understanding of sheet-metal design and/or fabricated assemblies
Experience designing products or equipment for manufacture
Ability to read and produce technical engineering drawings
Understanding of manufacturing and fabrication processes
Experience producing or working with Bills of Materials
Good understanding of Design for Manufacture
    Strong practical problem-solving ability
Ability to work collaboratively with manufacturing and engineering teams

    Particularly Interesting Backgrounds

Experience within any of the following would be advantageous:

    Special-purpose machinery | Food-processing equipment | Stainless-steel fabrication | Sheet metal | Machinery manufacture | Mechanical equipment | Bespoke manufacturing | Automated equipment | Fabricated assemblies

    What We're Looking For

We're particularly interested in people who are not solely CAD operators, but who understand how something will actually be manufactured once it leaves the drawing office.

You should be comfortable discussing your designs with production/fabrication teams, considering practical manufacturing methods and adapting designs where necessary.

Applications are welcomed from both established Design Engineers and developing engineers with strong SolidWorks/manufacturing foundations, with salary and level of responsibility discussed according to experience.

    What's On Offer?

    Negotiable salary based on experience
    Permanent opportunity
    Established specialist manufacturing business
    Interesting bespoke engineering projects
Opportunity to work closely with manufacturing and production
    Scope for continued professional development
Opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of the design function
