How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    I'm currently working with a leading independent transport planning consultancy that is looking to appoint a Senior Transport Planner to join its established and growing Basingstoke office.
    This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced transport planner looking to take the next step in their career with a consultancy that delivers a diverse range of development projects across the residential, commercial, education, healthcare and mixed-use sectors. The role offers the chance to lead projects, build client relationships, mentor junior colleagues and play a key part in the continued growth of a highly respected business.

    The Opportunity

    As a Senior Transport Planner, you'll take ownership of multiple projects from inception through to delivery, providing strategic transport planning advice to developers, landowners and private sector clients.
    You'll work closely with clients, local authorities and multidisciplinary project teams to deliver practical and innovative transport solutions that support planning applications and wider development objectives.

    Key Responsibilities

    Lead the preparation and delivery of Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans, Access Appraisals and supporting planning documentation.
    Support the promotion of development sites through the Local Plan process.
    Manage and review transport data analysis, trip generation forecasting and junction capacity assessments.
    Undertake accessibility assessments and sustainable transport appraisals.
    Provide strategic transport advice on a range of development projects.
    Contribute to masterplanning exercises and wider development strategies.
    Act as a primary point of contact for clients and key stakeholders.
    Liaise with local authorities and statutory consultees throughout the planning process.
    Manage project budgets, programmes and resource allocation.
    Review technical work and ensure quality standards are maintained.
    Identify project risks and opportunities whilst providing practical solutions.
    Mentor and support junior members of the team.
    Assist with fee proposals, framework submissions and business development activities.

    About You

    To be considered for the role, you'll ideally possess:

    A proven background within development-focused transport planning.
    Experience preparing Transport Assessments, Travel Plans and associated planning documents.
    Strong understanding of UK transport planning policy and guidance.
    Experience managing projects and client relationships.
    Excellent report writing and communication skills.
    Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    Experience using industry software such as Junctions, LinSig and Excel.
    The ability to work independently whilst supporting wider team objectives.
    A proactive and commercially aware approach.

    Desirable Experience

    Chartered status or working towards a relevant professional qualification.
    Experience managing medium to large-scale development projects.
    Knowledge of GIS software such as ArcGIS.
    Experience using transport modelling software including VISSIM, Paramics or SATURN.
    Exposure to public inquiries, hearings or expert witness work.
