How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Year 1 / Year 2 Teaching Assistant – Phonics Support

    Location: Barnet, HA8
    Salary: £90–£100 per day
    Contract: Full-time, temporary
    Start Date: September 2026
    Key Stage: KS1 – Year 1 or Year 2

Teach Now is delighted to be recruiting a Year 1 / Year 2 Teaching Assistant for a warm, welcoming primary school in Barnet. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced KS1 Teaching Assistant who enjoys working closely with children and has confidence delivering small-group phonics interventions.

    About the Role

Working within either a Year 1 or Year 2 classroom, you will play an important part in supporting pupils academically, socially and emotionally. You will work alongside the class teacher to provide high-quality general classroom support while also taking responsibility for targeted phonics sessions.

    Your responsibilities will include:

Supporting pupils across the Year 1 or Year 2 curriculum.

Delivering small-group phonics interventions to help pupils build confidence, fluency and early reading skills.

Supporting individual pupils and groups during lessons.

Preparing learning resources and helping maintain an engaging classroom environment.

Encouraging independence, positive behaviour and participation.

Monitoring pupil progress and sharing feedback with the class teacher.

Helping every child feel supported, included and able to achieve their best.

The school currently follows Twinkl Phonics. Previous experience with Twinkl Phonics would be useful but is not essential; strong practical experience delivering phonics interventions is the key requirement.

    About You

We are looking for someone who:

Has previous Year 1 and/or Year 2 experience.

Has hands-on experience delivering phonics interventions or phonics groups.

Understands the needs of younger primary-aged pupils.

Is warm, patient, enthusiastic and proactive.

Can confidently support both whole-class learning and smaller targeted groups.

Works well as part of a collaborative teaching team.

Is committed to helping children make progress and develop confidence.

    About the School

This is a lovely, caring school with a genuinely warm and welcoming atmosphere. Pupils are encouraged to become the very best versions of themselves, with a nurturing environment providing a strong foundation for children to grow, develop and celebrate their individuality.

The school has a Jewish ethos, while its staff community includes people of different faiths, religions and backgrounds, creating an inclusive and respectful working environment.

    Why Apply?

This role offers the opportunity to join a supportive KS1 team, make a meaningful impact on childrens early reading development and gain valuable experience within a positive and nurturing school environment.

If you have strong Year 1 or Year 2 experience and are confident delivering phonics interventions, we would love to hear from you.
