How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    M&E Quantity Surveyor
    Location: Maidstone, Kent
    Salary: Up to £60,000 per annum + Car Allowance + Package

    The Opportunity
    Hill McGlynn are currently working with an established and growing contractor who are looking to appoint an experienced M&E Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team, based from their offices in Maidstone, Kent.
    Working as part of a wider team of Quantity Surveyors, you will take commercial responsibility for a portfolio of Mechanical & Electrical projects across the South East, covering both M&E installations for new build construction projects and ongoing M&E maintenance works.
     
    This is an excellent opportunity for an M&E Quantity Surveyor looking to join a well-established commercial team while taking ownership of specialist mechanical and electrical projects from a commercial perspective.
    Previous M&E Quantity Surveying experience is essential for this position.
     
    The Role
    As M&E Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for the commercial management of mechanical and electrical projects, working closely with the wider commercial and operational teams to ensure projects are delivered successfully and profitably.
     
    Key responsibilities will include:

    Managing the commercial performance of M&E projects across the South East.
    Working across both new build M&E installation projects and M&E maintenance contracts.
    Managing projects commercially from initial stages through to final account.
    Preparing valuations and applications for payment.
    Managing subcontractor procurement, appointments, valuations and payments.
    Monitoring project costs against budgets and forecasts.
    Preparing regular cost reports and commercial forecasts.
    Identifying, pricing and negotiating variations.
    Managing change control throughout the project lifecycle.
    Reviewing contracts and identifying commercial risks and opportunities.
    Managing subcontractor and supplier accounts through to final account.
    Working closely with Project Managers, Contract Managers and operational teams.
    Ensuring accurate commercial records and supporting documentation are maintained.
    Developing strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.
    Supporting the wider Quantity Surveying team and contributing to commercial best practice across the business. About You
    We are looking for a commercially strong Quantity Surveyor with demonstrable experience within the Mechanical & Electrical sector.
     
    You will ideally have:

    Previous M&E Quantity Surveying experience - essential.
    Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical construction packages.
    Experience commercially managing M&E projects from procurement through to final account.
    Experience with new build M&E installations and/or M&E maintenance projects.
    Strong knowledge of valuations, variations, subcontractor management and cost reporting.
    Good contractual and commercial awareness.
    Experience managing project budgets, forecasts and commercial risk.
    Strong negotiation and stakeholder-management skills.
    The ability to manage your own workload while working effectively within a wider commercial team.
    Excellent organisation and attention to detail.
    A relevant Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management qualification would be advantageous. What's on Offer?
