How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Senior Electronics Design Engineer

    The Opportunity

Are you an experienced Senior Electronics Design Engineer who wants more ownership, more variety and the opportunity to genuinely lead projects from concept through to production?

This is a chance to join an innovative UK electronics design business supporting major OEMs across sectors including Automotive, Clean Energy, Communications, Defence & Aerospace, Medical, Scientific Research and Space.

This isn't simply a design role where you're handed a specification and asked to deliver a piece of hardware. As a Senior Electronics Design Engineer, you'll take ownership of projects, work directly with clients, decide how the engineering challenge should be approached, get hands-on with the design yourself and provide technical direction to the wider engineering team.

You'll work alongside Electronics, PCB, Mechanical and Software Engineers, giving you exposure to the complete product lifecycle – from initial customer enquiry, requirements capture and quotation through to design, testing and manufacturing.

The role is primarily remote, but you'll need to be within comfortable travelling distance of Dunstable, Bedfordshire. The business has a dedicated electronics laboratory on site, and you'll occasionally need to be there for hardware build, bring-up, testing, integration and fault finding. Some customer-site travel may also be required.

    What You'll Be Doing

As a Senior Electronics Design Engineer, you'll be trusted to take projects and run with them, balancing technical delivery, client expectations, timescales and budget.

    Your responsibilities will include:

    *

Owning electronics design projects from initial enquiry and requirements capture through to production handover.

    *

Working directly with clients to understand, challenge and translate requirements into clear technical specifications.

    *

Defining project scope, estimating engineering effort and identifying the resources and skills required.

    *

Providing technical direction to Electronics and PCB Engineers, allocating work and reviewing outputs.

    *

Acting as the day-to-day technical contact for clients, managing progress, scope, change and expectations.

    *

Carrying out hands-on hardware design, simulation, prototype bring-up, testing and fault finding.

    *

Supporting quotations and proposals with technical input, estimates and delivery plans.

    *

Identifying project risks and technical issues early, then taking ownership of finding practical solutions.

    *

Producing and reviewing technical documentation, design reviews and engineering reports.

    *

Supporting EMC, qualification, validation and integration activities at the laboratory, external test houses and customer sites.

    *

Helping develop engineering standards, processes and best practice while supporting the development of less experienced engineers.

    What We're Looking For

You might already be working as a Senior Electronics Design Engineer, Principal Engineer or Technical Lead. Equally, you could be a strong Senior Engineer who is ready to take the next step and wants the opportunity to own projects rather than simply contribute to them.

    You'll ideally bring:

    *

A degree or equivalent qualification in Electronics Engineering or a related discipline.

    *

Significant commercial experience designing electronic hardware from concept through to production.

    *

Demonstrable experience taking ownership of projects and delivering against agreed timescales.

    *

Mixed analogue and digital electronics design experience, including microcontrollers.

    *

Experience with schematic capture using Altium and/or Cadence.

    *

Strong technical documentation and report-writing skills.

    *

Experience providing technical direction, mentoring or reviewing the work of other engineers.

    *

Confidence dealing directly with technical and non-technical customers.

    *

A structured, methodical approach to electronics design and problem solving.

    *

Experience with FMEA, validation, approvals and engineering change processes.

    *

The ability to manage project timing, priorities and competing demands.

    *

Eligibility to obtain and hold UK Security Clearance (SC).

    *

A full UK driving licence, as occasional customer-site travel may be required.

Skills That Would Be a Bonus

Experience with switched-mode power supplies, microprocessors, EMC testing, communications protocols such as CAN, Ethernet, RS485 and USB, version control, or high-speed Signal Integrity and Power Integrity would all be valuable.

Experience working within an electronics design consultancy or design services environment would also be advantageous, particularly if you've worked across multiple customers and projects. Exposure to managing subcontracted Software, Firmware or Mechanical Engineering resources would be another strong addition.

    Why This Role?

The biggest difference here is ownership.

As a Senior Electronics Design Engineer, you'll have the freedom to make engineering decisions, influence how projects are delivered and build strong relationships with customers. You'll still be hands-on technically, but you'll also have the opportunity to shape projects, guide other engineers and become someone clients trust to deliver.

You'll have the variety of working across multiple industries and technologies, without being tied to a single product or programme.

    What's On Offer:

Competitive salary. Primarily remote working with access to a fully equipped electronics laboratory in Dunstable. 25 days' holiday plus bank holidays. Company pension. Private healthcare following successful completion of probation. Life insurance. Free parking at the Dunstable facility. The opportunity to work across diverse electronics projects for major OEM customers. Genuine progression towards Principal-level technical responsibility for the right individual.

Location: Primarily remote, with occasional travel to Dunstable and customer sites. Ideally, you'll live within approximately 90 minutes of Dunstable as hands-on laboratory work will be required at key stages of projects
