How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Design Delivery Manager (Great Grid Partnership)

    Location: Birmingham (Minimum 3 days/week on-site / regional office)

Sector: High Voltage Electricity Transmission & Substations

    About the Role

An experienced Design Manager is required to support the landmark Great Grid Partnership (GGP) framework. Operating as part of the Omexom Taylor Woodrow (OTW) joint venture delivering National Grid's Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) portfolio, you will oversee design coordination, programme execution, and technical assurance across a portfolio of complex transmission schemes.

    Key Responsibilities

Portfolio Design Management: Own and maintain the design schedule across multiple infrastructure schemes, ensuring milestone targets and recovery plans are strictly managed.

Quality & Assurance Gateways: Enforce compliance with National Grid (NG), SSE, and Omexom specifications, directing technical submissions through required assurance hold points.

Commercial & NEC Change Control: Act as the technical custodian for commercial variations, managing Early Warning Notices (EWNs), Compensation Events (CEs), and design cost forecasts.

Multi-Disciplinary Coordination: Lead design review meetings across internal/external design teams, client representatives, site delivery crews, and OEMs to resolve RFIs and Technical Queries.

Design Safety (CDM): Drive "Safety-by-Design" principles and manage technical risks across temporary and permanent works.

    Candidate Profile

8+ years of Design Management or Senior Engineering experience within energy transmission or heavy infrastructure.

Deep technical familiarity with HV substations, overhead lines, or cable routes.

Proven track record navigating National Grid standards, processes, and assurance pathways.

Strong commercial acumen with direct experience managing NEC change control frameworks.

Capability to work on-site in Birmingham at least 3 days per week.

(Note: Rates and contract length can be added once confirmed-e.g., ~£400-£450/day Inside IR35, 6-month initial contract).

Major Recruitment is acting as an Employment Agency in relation to permanent vacancies and as an Employment Business in relation to temporary or contract vacancies, as defined under the Conduct of Employment Agencies and Employment Businesses Regulations 2003.
