How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Small Works Manager & Buyer

    Oxford | Office-Based | Up to £70,000 DOE

    Are you an experienced Small Works Manager, Electrical Project Manager or Buyer looking for a role where you can take real ownership of projects, procurement and client relationships?

    I'm working with a well-established electrical and building services contractor looking to appoint a Small Works Manager & Buyer to join their team.

    This is a varied, hands-on role combining small works management, electrical project coordination, estimating and procurement, allowing you to oversee projects from initial enquiry and pricing through to completion, while also taking ownership of the purchasing function.

    You'll be working closely with clients, engineers and suppliers, making sure works are properly planned, materials are where they need to be, and projects are delivered to a high standard.

    The Role

    As the Small Works Manager & Buyer, you'll be responsible for managing a portfolio of smaller electrical works while overseeing procurement for both small works and larger projects.

    Managing small electrical works, maintenance and remedial projects from enquiry through to completion
    Acting as the main point of contact for small works clients
    Planning, scheduling and coordinating engineers and subcontractors
    Pricing small works, remedial works, EICRs and electrical installations
    Carrying out site surveys where required and preparing competitive quotations
    Monitoring engineer performance and ensuring works are completed to a high standard
    Managing reactive maintenance requirements and daytime emergency callouts
    Ensuring works meet health & safety and NICEIC requirements
    Managing job costs, claims and invoicing
    Coordinating materials and equipment across small works and main projects
    Obtaining competitive prices from wholesalers and suppliers
    Raising purchase orders and ensuring materials arrive on time
    Building and maintaining strong supplier relationships
    Negotiating pricing and identifying new suppliers
    Arranging plant, access equipment, tool repairs and calibration
    Supporting the wider projects team with procurement and reactive requirementsWhat We're Looking For

    We're looking for someone who is organised, commercially aware and technically strong, with the confidence to manage clients, engineers and suppliers while keeping multiple jobs moving.

    Experience within an electrical, construction or building services environment
    Previous experience managing small works, projects, maintenance or procurement
    Strong understanding of electrical works and construction environments
    Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills
    Strong communication and client management skills
    Good commercial awareness and experience with pricing or estimating
    Confident using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
    Full UK Driving Licence
    NICEIC Qualifying Manager status or C&G 2391 would be advantageous, although not essential.The successful Small Works Manager & Buyer will be on a salary up to £70,000, depending on experience + company vehicle/car allowance + 24 days holiday + bank holidays + career progression + package.
