How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Ready to play your part?

At AWE, it's not just a job, it's far more than that. Our shared purpose is to help keep the nation safe. Could this role be the opportunity for you to play your part?

Why not join AWE and play a vital role in maintaining the engineering assets and equipment that support some of the UK's most important national programmes.

As a Maintenance Technician, you'll be part of a skilled and collaborative team responsible for ensuring plant, equipment and facilities operate safely, reliably and efficiently. You'll support a range of maintenance activities, including preventative maintenance, fault finding, repairs and equipment improvements, helping to maximise operational performance and availability.

Working alongside experienced engineering teams, you'll have the opportunity to develop your technical skills, gain exposure to a wide variety of equipment and systems and contribute to continuous improvement within a unique and highly regulated environment. Machine tool experience is beneficial but not essential as training and development will be provided.

    What we're looking for

We're seeking motivated individuals who have a practical engineering background, a positive attitude and a willingness to learn and develop.

To be successful in this role, you'll have:

NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline as a minimum
A completed engineering apprenticeship and relevant engineering/maintenance experience
Basic knowledge of mechanical and/or electrical systems
    Good problem-solving and fault-finding skills
The ability to work safely and follow maintenance procedures
Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team

It would be great if you also have experience in:

While not essential, the following would be advantageous:

Maintenance within a manufacturing, industrial, utilities, facilities or engineering environment
Mechanical, electrical, hydraulic or pneumatic systems
Planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities
Using maintenance management systems and recording maintenance activities
Working within Environment, Health, Safety, Security and Quality (EHSSQ) requirements
Supporting continuous improvement activities and equipment reliability initiatives

    Work hard, be rewarded:

We ask a lot and set the bar high because our work truly matters. In return we offer balance, with award winning benefits including:

9-day working fortnight - meaning you get every other Friday off work, in addition to 270 hours of annual leave.
Market leading contributory pension scheme (we will pay between 9% and 13% of your pensionable pay depending on your contributions)
Family friendly policies: Maternity Leave - 39 Weeks Full Pay and Paternity Leave - 4 Weeks Full Pay
Opportunities for Professional Career Development including funding for annual membership of a relevant professional body
Employee Assistance Programme and Occupational Health Services
Life Assurance (4 x annual salary)
Discounts - access to savings on a wide range of everyday spending
Special Leave Policy including paid time off for volunteering, public service (including reserve forces) and caring

The 'Working at AWE' page on our website is where you can find full details in the 'AWE Benefits Guide'.

You must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the security clearance required for the role.

Due to the classified nature of the work involved, there are limited opportunities to work from home in this role. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will spend the majority of their time working on site at AWE.
