How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Carmichael UK are recruiting for an experienced Section Engineer to join a major phase of one of the UK's largest infrastructure projects in Northamptonshire.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a driven engineer looking to play a key role in the delivery of significant highways works on a long-term programme with a leading Tier 1 contractor.

    The Role

    As Section Engineer, you will take ownership of key highways packages, ensuring works are delivered safely, on programme, and to the highest quality standards.

    Key responsibilities will include:

    Managing Site Engineers and subcontractors across multiple work fronts

    Coordinating highways construction activities including earthworks, drainage, roadworks and pavement construction

    Producing and reviewing ITPs, WPPs and technical documentation

    Ensuring works are delivered in accordance with drawings, specifications and quality requirements

    Monitoring programme progress and assisting with short and medium-term planning

    Managing NCRs, quality records and site compliance activities

    Liaising with project teams, stakeholders and construction management to ensure successful delivery

    Promoting the highest standards of health, safety and environmental compliance

    About You

    We are keen to speak with candidates who have:

    Previous experience as a Section Engineer on major highways or infrastructure projects

    Strong technical knowledge of highways construction, drainage and earthworks

    Experience managing Site Engineers and subcontractors

    Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications

    Competence in QA processes, ITPs, permits and site documentation

    HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline

    CSCS Card and SMSTS preferred
