How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    The business continues to grow and is looking for an experienced Commercial Development Manager to join its commercial team and play a key role in identifying new opportunities, developing customer relationships and driving profitable business growth.
    The Role
    This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced sales and business development professional with a strong background within the freight forwarding or logistics industry.
    As Commercial Development Manager, you will be responsible for identifying and developing new commercial opportunities, building long-term relationships with customers and delivering tailored freight and supply chain solutions.
    You will have the opportunity to utilise your existing industry knowledge and network while developing new opportunities across the company's extensive service offering.
    The successful candidate will ideally have experience across Road, Air, Ocean or Sea Freight, with candidates possessing experience across multiple modes particularly encouraged to apply.
    This is a field-based position, with the flexibility to work remotely and attend the Hessle, Hull location as required.
    Key Responsibilities
    - Identify, develop and secure new business opportunities across the UK logistics and freight forwarding market.
    - Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with new and existing customers.
    - Develop a strong understanding of customer supply chains and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, service and cost.
    - Promote the companies freight forwarding and logistics solutions across road, air and ocean freight.
    - Generate new leads through proactive prospecting, networking, referrals and existing industry relationships.
    - Develop and manage a robust sales pipeline from initial prospect through to successful conversion.
    - Prepare and present commercial proposals and tailored logistics solutions to prospective customers.
    - Negotiate commercial terms, pricing and service agreements to achieve profitable growth.
    - Work closely with internal operational and commercial teams to ensure solutions are commercially viable and delivered to a high standard.
    - Identify opportunities to increase revenue and customer spend through additional services and multimodal solutions.
    - Maintain accurate CRM records, sales forecasts and pipeline activity.
    - Monitor market trends, competitor activity and changing customer requirements to identify new opportunities.
    - Attend customer meetings, industry events and networking opportunities where appropriate.
    - Take ownership of the customer journey from initial engagement through to onboarding and ongoing relationship development.
    - Consistently achieve agreed sales, revenue and margin targets.
    About You
    We are looking for an ambitious and commercially minded sales professional who understands the freight and logistics industry and has a proven track record of winning new business.
    You will ideally have:
    - Proven experience in business development, sales or commercial management within freight forwarding or logistics.
    - A demonstrable track record of winning new customers and generating revenue.
    - Strong industry knowledge across Road, Air, Ocean and/or Sea Freight.
    - An established network of contacts within the logistics, freight forwarding, manufacturing, retail, import/export or supply chain sectors would be advantageous.
    - Strong commercial awareness and the ability to identify profitable opportunities.
    - Excellent negotiation and influencing skills.
    - The confidence to engage with decision-makers and senior stakeholders.
    - A consultative approach to sales, with the ability to understand customer requirements and develop appropriate logistics solutions.
    - Strong communication, presentation and relationship-building skills.
    - A self-motivated and entrepreneurial approach, with the ability to manage your own diary and workload.
    - The ability to work independently in a field-based environment while collaborating effectively with internal teams.
    - A full UK driving licence.
