How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Labourer

    Portsmouth | £28K | 34 Days Annual Leave + Pension + Life Insurance + Health & Wellbeing Support | Full-Time | Permanent

    The Opportunity

    Are you an experienced Labourer with a strong understanding of construction methods and at least 2 years’ experience working on building or maintenance projects?

    A well-established property maintenance and construction business is looking for a reliable Labourer to support responsive repairs, routine maintenance and void property works across Portsmouth.

    This is a varied, hands-on role working alongside Groundworkers, Roofers and other trades. As a Labourer, you will support repair and maintenance activities while helping ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

    Job Responsibilities

    Support Groundworkers with fencing, drainage, concrete repairs and paving.
    Assist Roofers with pitched and flat roof repair works.
    Provide general labouring support to tradespeople across maintenance projects.
    Clear work areas and collect waste materials safely.
    Transport waste materials to approved waste transfer stations when required.
    Handle and move materials, tools and equipment around site.
    Follow safe working practices and site health and safety procedures.
    Support wider maintenance contracts when operational demand requires.
    Skills & Knowledge Required

    Have 2–5 years’ experience working as a Labourer within the construction industry.
    Demonstrate a practical understanding of common construction methods and materials.
    Hold a full UK driving licence.
    Work effectively as part of a busy repairs and maintenance team.
    Follow instructions accurately and work safely on site.
    Be reliable, practical and willing to support different trades.
    Hold a valid CSCS card – preferred.
    Be willing to complete a DBS check before starting employment.
    The successful Labourer will need to arrange their own transport to and from work, as a company vehicle is not provided. A full UK driving licence is essential in case you are required to drive a company vehicle during the working day.
