How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

This is a hands-on role that would suit someone who enjoys working with complex equipment, solving practical engineering challenges, and supporting the development and testing of cutting-edge products.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you'll play a key role in the operation of specialist laboratory facilities, supporting testing programmes from setup through to completion.

As the successful Laboratory & Test Technician, you will be:

Operating and maintaining vacuum and laboratory test systems

Supporting qualification, development and investigative testing programmes

Setting up instrumentation, sensors and test equipment

Building, configuring and maintaining test rigs and fixtures

Carrying out fault-finding and troubleshooting activities

    Supporting calibration and measurement systems

Assisting with laboratory and facility maintenance activities

Working closely with engineers and technical specialists on a variety of projects

We're keen to speak with candidates who have experience in laboratory, test, manufacturing or engineering environments and who enjoy practical, hands-on work.

You'll be able to demonstrate experience in some of the following areas:

    Vacuum systems (HV/UHV)

    Instrumentation and test equipment

    Mechanical assembly

    Calibration and measurement systems

    Data acquisition or control systems

    Laboratory or testing environments

    Fault-finding and troubleshooting

A mechanical engineering background would be advantageous, although candidates with electrical, instrumentation or closely related experience are also encouraged to apply.

Experience gained within aerospace, defence, scientific research, advanced manufacturing, instrumentation or other highly regulated engineering environments would be beneficial.
