How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

This is an excellent opportunity to join the senior leadership team and make a genuine impact on the company’s continued growth.

    The Role

We are looking for a commercially minded Head of Logistics to take overall responsibility for a busy transport and maintenance operation.

You will lead Transport Managers, the Maintenance Manager, Transport Coordinators, Drivers and their wider teams. You will also oversee a fleet of approximately 25 vehicles and 75 trailers, ensuring it remains safe, compliant, reliable and commercially effective.

Reporting directly to the Directors, you will combine strategic leadership with a practical understanding of daily operations.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Develop and implement the company’s medium- and long-term logistics strategy.

    * Lead and develop the transport and maintenance departments.

    * Oversee daily transport operations, route planning, scheduling and fleet utilisation.

    * Maintain excellent customer service and delivery performance across the pallet network.

    * Maximise vehicle availability while reducing downtime, unnecessary mileage and wasted resources.

    * Ensure vehicles and trailers are inspected, maintained, serviced and repaired on schedule.

    * Maintain full compliance with Operator Licence requirements, drivers’ hours, the Working Time Directive and tachograph regulations.

    * Promote high standards of health, safety and legal compliance throughout the operation.

    * Manage logistics budgets, cost-to-serve, resource allocation and operational expenditure.

    * Identify opportunities to reduce costs, improve efficiency and support profitable growth.

    * Establish meaningful KPIs and provide accurate performance reports to the Directors.

    * Use fleet and operational data to support effective commercial decision-making.

    * Lead process-improvement, operational-change and system-implementation projects.

    * Coach and develop managers while identifying training and skills-development needs.

    * Manage employee performance, absence, disciplinary, grievance and employee-relations matters.

    * Build a positive, accountable and high-performing working culture.

    About You

You will be an experienced senior logistics leader who can think strategically while remaining closely connected to daily transport operations.

You will be commercially aware, organised and people-focused, with the confidence to make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.

    Essential Requirements

    * A valid Transport Manager CPC qualification.

    * Extensive senior-level experience managing transport, logistics or haulage operations.

    * Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation and Operator Licence requirements.

    * Thorough understanding of drivers’ hours, tachographs, Working Time Directive and vehicle compliance.

    * Proven experience managing a sizeable commercial fleet and its maintenance requirements.

    * Experience leading multidisciplinary teams, including managers, coordinators and drivers.

    * Strong experience managing budgets, KPIs, service levels, operational costs and performance.

    * Proven leadership, coaching and employee-relations experience.

    * Experience leading operational improvements, system implementations or change projects.

    * Good IT skills, including Excel, Outlook and business management, CRM or ERP systems.

    * Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder-management skills.

    Desirable Experience

    * Experience within a pallet network, multi-drop, haulage or time-critical distribution operation.

    * Knowledge of heavy-vehicle maintenance and fleet-availability planning.

    * Previous experience using NetSuite.

    Benefits

Senior position reporting directly to the Directors.

Opportunity to shape the company’s logistics strategy and future operations.

The chance to support a growing business with strong sustainability and circular-economy ambitions
