How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Electrical Engineer

    The Company

    An established, independent engineering consultancy based in Ivybridge, Devon, providing multidisciplinary engineering and environmental consultancy services across a diverse range of building and infrastructure projects.

    The Role

    An opportunity has arisen for an Electrical Design Engineer to join the team in Ivybridge.

    The successful Electrical Engineer will be responsible for undertaking and managing electrical design projects of varying sizes, with a particular focus on industrial and logistics developments. The role offers a combination of hands-on technical design, project responsibility, client interaction and coordination with wider professional teams.

    You will work across projects from initial design through to completion, with responsibility for producing high-quality electrical engineering solutions and ensuring designs meet relevant standards, regulations and project requirements.

    Key Responsibilities

    Manage and undertake the full electrical design of projects of varying sizes, primarily within the industrial and logistics sector
    Complete electrical building services design through to high-voltage systems where required
    Take responsibility for the delivery of medium to large-scale projects
    Develop electrical engineering solutions across relevant RIBA stages
    Act as a client-facing engineer, providing technical advice and supporting project development
    Liaise with clients, contractors, architects and wider professional teams
    Lead the coordination of electrical and wider engineering services
    Develop and specify controls, instrumentation and operating systems associated with building engineering services
    Undertake surveys and testing of existing electrical installations
    Prepare dilapidation reports relating to existing electrical installations
    Produce and review engineering calculations, drawings and technical documentation
    Ensure designs comply with relevant British Standards, UK Regulations and industry guidance
    Provide technical and quality-control input across electrical engineering projects
    Attend client and project sites for meetings, surveys, inspections, testing and other project requirements
    Manage and prioritise your own workload to meet agreed deadlines
    Attend project and resource meetings, providing accurate updates on workload and availability
    Support and mentor graduate and junior engineers
    Maintain compliance with all relevant health and safety requirements
    About You

    Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or a relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent professional experience
    Previous experience within building services design
    Experience delivering electrical design projects across relevant RIBA stages
    Good understanding of electrical building services and associated systems
    Strong knowledge of relevant British Standards, UK Regulations and industry codes
    Experience using relevant electrical design, calculation and engineering software
    Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel
    Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise confidently with clients and project stakeholders
    Ability to manage your own workload and deliver work within agreed programmes
    Consultancy or construction environment experience desirable
    HNC/HND or equivalent qualification desirable
    MCIBSE/MIET membership desirable
    Working towards Chartered Engineer status desirable but not essential
