How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    About the role

Join a well-established Fire & Security business as a Fire Alarm & Emergency Lighting Engineer. This is a field-based role covering Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and London with wider travel as required.

You’ll be responsible for service, maintenance, fault-finding, call-outs and remedial works. The role is focused entirely on existing systems with no installation or commissioning work.

You’ll need to be confident working independently and managing your own workload.

    Key responsibilities

    * Service and maintain fire alarm and emergency lighting systems.

    * Diagnose faults and carry out remedial works.

    * Attend reactive call-outs and resolve issues efficiently.

    * Work across a wide range of manufacturers and systems.

    * Identify additional works and opportunities for customers where appropriate.

    * Most journeys will be completed within the same day, although occasional overnight stays may be available if preferred.

    * This is a role for someone comfortable with a significant amount of travel.

    Experience

    * Previous experience working independently within fire alarm engineering.

    * A competent engineer who can confidently attend sites without supervision.

    * Strong fault-finding and maintenance skills.

    * Experience with emergency lighting is highly desirable.

    * Gent experience is beneficial but not essential — training can be provided where required.

    Package & Benefits

    * £40,000 basic salary with strong earning potential.

    * Company van, fuel card, mobile phone and basic tools provided.

    * 20 days' holiday plus statutory public holidays, with flexibility available for the right person.

    * Overtime, travel pay, commission and on-call payments available.

    * Travel is paid after the first 30 minutes each way at 1.5x.

    * OTE of £50,000–£60,000+ is achievable depending on performance and willingness to take on additional work.

    * Commission available for extra works quoted, replacement items and new maintenance leads.

    * The highest individual monthly commission payment to date has been £1,280.

    * On-call is paid at £100 per week, plus additional payment for call-outs, on a 1-in-6 rota.
