How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    About the Role

    We are seeking an inspiring and experienced Headteacher to lead a well-established independent nursery school with an excellent reputation for delivering outstanding early years education and care.


    The Headteacher will provide strategic and operational leadership, ensuring the highest standards of teaching, learning, safeguarding and pastoral care. Working closely with staff, families and governors/proprietors, the successful candidate will champion a child-centred approach while driving continuous improvement across all aspects of the school.

    Key Responsibilities

    Leadership and Strategy

    • Provide clear and inspirational leadership for the school community.
    • Develop and implement the school's vision, values and strategic priorities.
    • Foster a culture of excellence, inclusion and continuous improvement.
    • Lead organisational development and change initiatives where appropriate.
    • Ensure compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements.


    Educational Leadership

    • Oversee the planning, delivery and evaluation of a high-quality Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum.
    • Monitor and enhance teaching and learning standards across the school.
    • Promote innovative and evidence-informed early years practice.
    • Ensure assessment and observation processes support children's development and learning.
    • Maintain a stimulating, safe and inclusive learning environment.


    Safeguarding and Welfare

    • Act as a visible safeguarding leader and ensure the highest standards of child protection.
    • Promote a culture where the welfare and wellbeing of children is paramount.
    • Ensure all safeguarding, health and safety, and regulatory requirements are met.
    • Support children's emotional, social and behavioural development.


    Staff Leadership and Development

    • Recruit, lead, motivate and develop a high-performing staff team.
    • Conduct performance management and professional development processes.
    • Foster collaboration, accountability and professional excellence.
    • Support staff wellbeing and engagement.


    Parent and Community Engagement

    • Build strong and positive relationships with parents and carers.
    • Act as an ambassador for the school within the local community.
    • Lead effective communication and engagement strategies.
    • Support admissions, retention and parent satisfaction initiatives.


    Operational and Financial Management

    • Oversee the day-to-day management of the school.
    • Contribute to budget planning and resource allocation.
    • Ensure effective management of facilities, resources and staffing.
    • Support the achievement of enrolment and sustainability objectives.


    Person Specification

    Essential

    • Leadership experience within an early years, nursery or preparatory school environment.
    • Strong knowledge of the EYFS framework and safeguarding requirements.
    • Proven ability to lead, motivate and develop staff teams.
    • Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.
    • A demonstrable commitment to outstanding pastoral care and child-centred education.
    • Experience of working effectively with parents, governors, proprietors or trustees.


    Desirable

    • Experience within the independent school sector or 4+ assessment criteria.
    • Leadership qualification such as NPQH or equivalent.
    • Experience managing budgets and school operations.
    • Knowledge of inspection and regulatory frameworks.
