How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    What we ask

    Education

    No minimum education required

    Job description

    Role: Astronomy / Physics tutor

    Location: Bolton and surrounding areas

    Delivery: In-person only

    Contract: Self-employed / flexible tutoring

    Start: September 2026

Tutor Doctor Bolton West is looking for an experienced Astronomy / Physics tutor to join our local tutor team, with an immediate opportunity supporting a Year 11 student at a specialist Alternative Provision (AP) centre in Bolton.

This is not an online role. The initial assignment is delivered face-to-face, on site at the AP centre, with the opportunity to support additional Tutor Doctor students across private tuition, SEND and Alternative Provision as our local caseload continues to grow.

    The immediate assignment

You will provide 1:1 support to an autistic Year 11 student studying Pearson Edexcel GCSE Astronomy.

She is academically capable and genuinely interested in the subject, but the right tutor needs to understand that effective SEND tuition is about more than simply delivering the syllabus. Building trust, recognising disengagement, adapting pace and creating a safe learning relationship will be essential.

Availability around Wednesday and Friday afternoons would be particularly useful, although some flexibility is possible.

    Who we're looking for

We'd particularly like to hear from:

    • Qualified, retired or experienced Physics teachers
    • Experienced Physics or Astronomy tutors
    • Candidates with strong GCSE Astronomy knowledge
    • Tutors with experience supporting autistic/SEND learners
    • People with experience in Alternative Provision, specialist education or 1:1 intervention
    • Tutors who can adapt their approach rather than relying on a rigid lesson plan

You should be patient, observant, reliable and comfortable building relationships with young people who may need learning approached differently.

    Important – travel

    Your own transport is essential.

This role involves travelling to the AP centre in Bolton and potentially to other Tutor Doctor students across Bolton, Westhoughton, Horwich, Atherton, Hindley and surrounding areas.

Applicants looking exclusively for online work will not be suitable.

    Working with Tutor Doctor

Tutor Doctor provides personalised 1:1 tuition across private homes, schools and specialist educational settings.

We don't simply allocate students according to subject. We carefully consider the student's academic needs, SEND profile, personality, learning style and the tutor's approach before making a match.

This particular assignment provides an immediate starting opportunity, but we are looking to build longer-term relationships with strong tutors who would like additional regular students as suitable matches become available.

All appointments are subject to Tutor Doctor's safeguarding and safer-recruitment requirements, including appropriate DBS and background checks.
