How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Are you an experienced Planner looking to take the next step in your career and work on some of the UK’s most significant renewable energy and infrastructure projects?

We’re working with a growing planning consultancy in Edinburgh looking to appoint a Principal to Associate Town Planner due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of projects across Scotland and England.

This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of complex projects, develop client relationships and play a key role in the continued growth of the team.

    The Opportunity

You’ll manage a varied portfolio of renewable energy and infrastructure projects from initial strategy through to consent, working closely with clients, technical specialists and multidisciplinary teams.

You’ll also have the opportunity to mentor and manage a Planning Consultant, making this a great role for someone looking to develop their leadership experience.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead renewable energy and infrastructure planning projects.
    • Manage planning applications, EIAs and consenting processes.
    • Provide strategic planning advice to clients.
    • Work across the Scottish and English planning systems.
    • Support Section 36, Section 37 and NSIP projects.
    • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
    • Develop strong client relationships.
    • Mentor junior team members and contribute to team growth.

    About You

    We’re looking for someone with:

    • Around 7–10 years’ planning experience.
    • MRTPI status, or progressing towards chartership with strong relevant experience.
    • Experience across renewable energy, infrastructure and EIA.
    • Knowledge of the Scottish and English planning systems.
    • Exposure to NSIPs, Section 36 or Section 37 consenting would be advantageous.
    • Strong project management, communication and client-facing skills.
    • Experience mentoring others, or the ambition to develop leadership responsibilities.

    What’s on Offer?

    • Nationally significant renewable energy and infrastructure projects.
    • Varied work across Scotland and England.
    • Hybrid working from a collaborative Edinburgh office.
    • Clear progression towards senior leadership.
    • Competitive salary and benefits.
    • A supportive, technically strong and well-regarded team.

If you’re looking for greater responsibility, exciting renewable energy projects and a clear route for progression, this could be an excellent next step.
