How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Develop your career in a thriving hospital with an exceptional team and genuinely manageable OOH commitments! This is a full-time position, with flexibility to work across 4 or 5 days. Part-time applications are also welcomed.

At Seadown Veterinary Hospital, we're passionate about creating an environment where talented vets can do their best work. Whether you're looking to broaden your clinical skills, pursue a certificate, or simply enjoy working alongside a supportive and experienced team, you'll find the opportunities and encouragement to thrive here.

As part of CVS, you'll be backed by one of the UK's leading veterinary groups, with access to outstanding clinical support, funded development opportunities and a culture that puts people first.

    Why Seadown?

Seadown is a well-established Small Animal Hospital with an experienced and collaborative team of veterinary surgeons, registered veterinary nurses, patient care assistants and receptionists who genuinely enjoy working together.

Our hospital is equipped with everything you'd expect from a modern, progressive first opinion facility, including:

    • Digital radiography
    • Ultrasound
    • Endoscopy
    • Advanced dental facilities
    • Laparoscopic surgery equipment
    • Dedicated ICU facilities
    • An in-house laboratory supported by dedicated laboratory technicians

Alongside our busy first opinion caseload, we're proud to offer an ophthalmology referral service supporting practices across the South of England, and benefit from a weekly visiting Advanced Practitioner in Orthopaedics. This creates excellent opportunities to work alongside experienced clinicians, develop your skills and manage a varied and rewarding caseload.

We're passionate about continuous improvement and actively encourage clinical discussions, knowledge sharing and new ideas. Your opinions will be valued, and you'll have the freedom to help shape our clinical approach and contribute to the future direction of the practice.

    The Role

We're looking for a Veterinary Surgeon who enjoys delivering high-quality patient care and wants to be part of a supportive, forward-thinking team.

One of the things our team particularly values is our approach to out-of-hours work. We operate our own OOH service, but thanks to our dedicated hybrid OOH team, overnight commitments are limited to just 1-2 nights per month, allowing you to maintain continuity of care without compromising your work-life balance.

    About You

You will be an experienced Veterinary Surgeon who enjoys working both independently and collaboratively. You'll ideally be someone who:

    • Is passionate about delivering outstanding patient and client care
    • Enjoys working up medical and surgical cases to a high standard
    • Values clinical freedom and evidence-based decision making
    • Is keen to continue developing professionally, whether through certificates, advanced skills or mentoring opportunities
    • Enjoys sharing knowledge and supporting colleagues
    • Thrives in a positive team environment where collaboration and communication are key
    • Wants to contribute to a progressive practice that continuously strives for excellence

Whether you're already highly experienced or looking to take the next step in your career, you'll find support, encouragement and exciting development opportunities at Seadown.

    What We Offer

At CVS, we recognise that exceptional patient care starts with exceptional people. That's why we invest heavily in our teams, providing industry-leading support, benefits and career development opportunities.

    You'll receive:

    • RCVS and VDS fees paid in full
    • Generous CPD allowance
    • Access to over 450 online and practical courses
    • BSAVA Library access
    • Fully funded postgraduate qualifications, including CertAVP and PgCert programmes, with tuition fees, examination fees and study leave covered
    • Up to 33 days holiday, with the option to buy or sell leave
    • CVS Pension Scheme
    • Access to Vet Oracle specialists, Advanced Clinical Services Network and Regional Clinical Leads for ongoing case support and mentoring
    • Health Cash Plan
    • Employee Assistance Programme
    • Wellbeing Champions network
    • Enhanced family-friendly policies
    • Staff discount scheme, including 50% off veterinary services, medications and MiPet food
