How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Registered Manager – Children's Residential Home

    Location: Derby
    Salary: £45,000 – £50,000 per annum
    Hours: Full-time, Permanent

    Role Overview

    An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Registered Manager to lead and oversee the day-to-day operation of a children's residential home in Derby.

    The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the home provides a safe, nurturing and supportive environment where children and young people are protected, safeguarded and supported to achieve positive outcomes.

    The Registered Manager will provide strong leadership to the staff team, ensure high standards of care and compliance are maintained, and promote the physical, emotional and developmental needs of the children and young people living in the home.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Take overall responsibility for the effective day-to-day management and operation of the home.

    * Ensure the home operates in accordance with its Statement of Purpose and Function.

    * Maintain high standards of care and work towards achieving and maintaining an Ofsted rating of Good or Outstanding.

    * Provide effective supervision, support, leadership and direction to staff.

    * Act as a positive role model, demonstrating integrity, optimism, compassion, resilience and determination.

    * Ensure the physical and emotional needs of children and young people are protected, safeguarded and promoted at all times.

    * Ensure care, education and risk management plans are implemented effectively and regularly reviewed.

    * Ensure appropriate staffing levels and staff deployment are maintained in line with the individual needs and risk management plans of each child.

    * Allocate duties and responsibilities effectively across the staff team.

    * Monitor staff performance and identify opportunities for improvement and development.

    * Manage day-to-day staffing, supervision and operational requirements.

    * Maintain effective communication with children, young people, families, staff, professionals and external stakeholders.

    * Ensure the home remains compliant with relevant legislation, regulations, safeguarding requirements and local authority procedures.

    * Use internal auditing, monitoring and inspection frameworks to identify and implement areas for improvement.

    * Manage budgets and resources effectively.

    * Deal with conflict and challenging situations professionally and effectively.

    * Make informed decisions and provide clear direction to the staff team.

    * Promote a positive, supportive and child-centred culture throughout the home.

    Essential Skills & Experience

    The successful candidate will ideally have:

    * Previous experience working within children's residential care, including supervisory or management experience.

    * Strong knowledge and understanding of the Children's Homes Regulations (England) 2015 and relevant safeguarding legislation.

    * Experience managing staff, allocating responsibilities and overseeing day-to-day operations within a residential setting.

    * Strong verbal and written communication skills.

    * The ability to lead, motivate and develop an effective staff team.

    * The ability to monitor and improve performance and maintain high standards of care.

    * Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.

    * The ability to make informed decisions and lead by example.

    * Experience managing budgets and resources.

    * The ability to manage conflict and challenging situations effectively.

    * A high level of resilience and the ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.

    Qualifications

    The successful candidate will be expected to hold, or be willing to work towards:

    Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare or an equivalent recognised qualification.

    Designated Safeguarding Lead Level 3 or equivalent.

    Compliance Requirements

    The successful candidate will be required to:

    Complete an Enhanced DBS check.

    Provide satisfactory employment references.

    Maintain any relevant professional registrations and qualifications.

    Demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding children and young people.

    Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and best practice.
