How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Location: [Location]
    Salary: [Salary]
    Contract: [Permanent/Contract]
Sector: Construction / Infrastructure / Tunnelling

    The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Health & Safety Advisor to join a major construction and infrastructure project.

This is a senior site-based position, providing leadership and professional health and safety support across a complex construction environment. You will work closely with project directors, managers, supervisors, subcontractors and the client to ensure the highest standards of health, safety and wellbeing are maintained throughout the project.

The successful candidate will be confident operating in a demanding construction environment and will have the experience and authority to challenge unsafe practices, provide practical advice and drive continuous improvement.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Lead and promote best practice across health, safety and sustainability on the project.

    * Provide professional H&S advice and support to directors, managers and supervisors.

    * Develop strong, positive relationships with the client and project stakeholders.

    * Lead health and safety improvement initiatives, campaigns and development programmes.

    * Ensure effective management controls are in place and statutory responsibilities are understood and implemented.

    * Work closely with site management teams to ensure compliance with company procedures, legislation and project requirements.

    * Provide leadership and support to junior Health & Safety Advisors where required.

    * Carry out regular site inspections, surveillance and audits, identifying risks and recommending appropriate improvements.

    * Monitor and follow up actions arising from inspections and audits.

    * Lead and participate in accident and incident investigations, identifying root causes and implementing preventative measures.

    * Analyse H&S data and statistics to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.

    * Develop and deliver lessons learned, safety campaigns and improvement plans.

    * Support the development and delivery of project inductions and workforce engagement initiatives.

    * Assist with the preparation and review of H&S plans, procedures, RAMS and third-party documentation.

    * Maintain accurate H&S records and documentation.

    * Prepare reports, presentations and performance information for senior management and the client.

    * Monitor compliance against project KPIs and contractual requirements.

    * Have the confidence and authority to stop work where health and safety is compromised.

    * Promote a positive safety culture focused on ensuring everyone goes home safe and healthy every day.

    About You

You will be an experienced Health & Safety professional with a strong background in construction, infrastructure or a similarly complex environment.

    Ideally, you will have:

    * Relevant senior-level H&S qualifications and professional membership, such as NEBOSH, IOSH or equivalent.

    * Extensive experience working in a Health & Safety role within construction or major infrastructure projects.

    * Tunnelling experience would be highly advantageous.

    * Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and construction requirements.

    * Good understanding of relevant management systems and standards, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 or equivalent.

    * Experience conducting inspections, audits, investigations and risk-based assessments.

    * Strong communication and influencing skills, with the confidence to challenge at all levels.

    * Experience working with clients, subcontractors and multidisciplinary project teams.

    * Good commercial and contractual awareness.

    * Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

    What You'll Bring

This role would suit someone who is proactive, commercially aware and comfortable working autonomously on a major construction project.

You will need to be able to build credibility quickly with operational teams, provide practical solutions and maintain a strong focus on compliance while helping the project deliver safely and efficiently.

Tunnelling or major infrastructure experience is particularly desirable.
