How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Junior / Trainee Quantity Surveyor

    West Hertfordshire
    Circa £25,000 per annum
    Office-based – 5 days per week

    The Role

    Our client is an established specialist contractor within the commercial flooring sector and is looking to appoint a Junior / Trainee Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team.

    This is an excellent opportunity for someone at the beginning of their career who is looking to develop within Quantity Surveying and gain hands-on experience across live commercial projects.

    Our client is open to considering either a recent graduate or someone with 1–2 years’ experience within construction who is keen to progress into a Quantity Surveying role.

    Full training and development will be provided.

    Key Responsibilities

    Assisting the commercial team with the day-to-day management of projects
    Supporting with the preparation of quotations, estimates and cost information
    Assisting with valuations, variations and applications for payment
    Reviewing project drawings, specifications and tender information
    Supporting subcontractor and supplier procurement
    Monitoring project costs and maintaining accurate commercial records
    Liaising with clients, suppliers, subcontractors and internal project teams
    Assisting with the preparation of reports and project documentation
    Developing an understanding of contracts and the full commercial lifecycle of projects

    Candidate Requirements

    Ideally a degree, HNC/HND or similar qualification within Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a related subject
    Alternatively, 1–2 years’ experience within the construction industry with a genuine interest in moving into Quantity Surveying
    Strong academic background
    Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    Confident dealing with different people and stakeholders
    Good numerical and analytical skills
    Strong attention to detail
    Comfortable using Microsoft Excel and other standard Office programmes
    Organised, proactive and keen to learn
    Looking to develop a long-term career within the construction industry
