How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

SRT Marine Systems plc (SRT) is a market leader in the domain of international marine surveillance technology and systems. We are a respected, established, and an ambitious multi-national company headquartered in the UK with a global customer base.

The company has a worldwide impact in the marine sector by leading the next generation of maritime domain awareness technologies "MDA", products, and systems that significantly enhance security, safety, environmental protection, and sustainability. Our customers are global and range from the largest national coast guards to individual vessel owners.

SRT is an exciting company where high-quality results are rewarded. We are ambitious and constantly seek to innovate in order to deliver better products and services to our customers. We strive to make SRT a rewarding and challenging place to work, where talented, hard-working individuals have the opportunity to make a real impact across the marine industry.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Data Visualisation Designer with specialist experience in geospatial data visualisation to help design the next generation of maritime domain surveillance products. This person will create visually striking, highly usable 2D and 3D visualisations that help customers explore large maritime datasets, understand activity patterns, identify trends, and interpret intelligence derived from our data.

This is a product design role for custom software, not a business intelligence or dashboard reporting role. The ideal candidate for the role of Data Visualisation Designer combines strong UI craft with cartographic thinking, data visualisation expertise, and an ability to work closely with engineers to turn complex geospatial concepts into elegant, performant, operationally useful product experiences.

*Please note - the role of Data Visualisation Designer is a hybrid working role with your office being Bristol.

Key Responsibilities - Data Visualisation Designer (not exhaustive):

Design high-quality 2D and 3D geospatial visualisations for maritime surveillance, intelligence analysis and operational decision-making.
Turn complex maritime datasets into clear visual patterns, trends, anomalies, behaviours and insight-led user journeys.
Create wireframes, prototypes, interaction models and polished UI designs for map-led product experiences.
Design visual treatments for vessel tracks, movement histories, density maps, heatmaps, clusters, routes, zones, alerts, sensor coverage and analytical overlays.
Work with product managers, engineers, data scientists and maritime domain experts to understand customer workflows and mission needs.
Define visual systems for geospatial data, including colour, symbology, hierarchy, confidence, uncertainty, severity and temporal change.
Prototype advanced visualisation concepts using tools such as Figma, Kepler.gl, deck.gl, Mapbox, Cesium, D3, QGIS or similar.
Partner with front-end engineers to ensure designs can be implemented effectively in custom web software at large data scale.
Test and refine designs with internal experts and customer users, balancing visual impact, analytical clarity and operational usability.

Skills & Experience - Data Visualisation Designer (not exhaustive):

Strong portfolio showing advanced data visualisation, geospatial interfaces, map-based products or complex analytical software.
Proven UX/UI design experience in custom software products, ideally B2B, SaaS, defence, maritime, intelligence, logistics, GIS or another complex domain.
Excellent visual design craft, with strong judgement around layout, hierarchy, typography, colour, interaction states andinformation density.
Good understanding of cartographic design principles, including layers, projections, scale, symbology, spatial relationships and map readability.
Experience designing for large or complex datasets, including aggregation, filtering, clustering, zoom-level behaviour and progressive disclosure.
Familiarity with geospatial and visualisation tools or libraries such as Kepler.gl, deck.gl, Mapbox GL JS, CesiumJS, D3, Three.js, QGIS or ArcGIS.
Ability to design 3D geospatial experiences such as globes, terrain, extruded data, sensor volumes, movement paths or layered operational scenes.
Comfortable working with technical teams and discussing APIs, data schemas, rendering constraints, front-end implementation and performance trade-offs.
Strong grasp of data storytelling and visual analytics: helping users move from raw data to interpretation, insight and action.
Interest in maritime domain awareness, vessel behaviour, earth observation, remote sensing, intelligence analysis or national security use cases.
