How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Inspection Technician (manufacturing)
    Location: West Yorkshire
    Salary: £30,000-£32,000 per annum
    Contract: Full-time, Permanent
    Working Hours: Monday-Thursday 07:00-16:00 | Friday 07:00-13:00

We are looking for a hands-on Inspection Technician to join an established engineering manufacturing environment in Yorkshire.
This is a practical, workshop-based position for someone who enjoys working directly with engineering components, precision measuring equipment and technical drawings. You will spend much of your time carrying out dimensional inspections using a range of handheld and specialist inspection equipment, ensuring components meet exact specifications.
This role would be particularly well suited to someone from a machining, engineering inspection, metrology, manufacturing or workshop background, rather than someone whose experience is predominantly focused on quality administration or paperwork.

    Responsibilities
    • Carry out accurate dimensional inspection of manufactured components.
    • Use a range of precision measuring and inspection equipment, including:
    oMicrometres
    oVerniers and callipers
    oBore micrometres
    oHeight gauges
    oShadow graph / profile projector
    oThread wires and thread gauges
    oPlug gauges
    oSurface measurement equipment
    oHardness testing equipment
    oCMM equipment where required

    • Interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, specifications and work instructions.
    • Carry out first-off, in-process and final inspections.
    • Check components against specified dimensional and technical requirements.
    • Identify defects, dimensional discrepancies and manufacturing issues.
    • Provide practical and accurate feedback to machinists and production teams to help resolve manufacturing issues.
    • Record inspection results and maintain accurate traceability documentation.
    • Identify and quarantine non-conforming components where required.
    • Inspect coated and subcontracted components for quality, condition and dimensional compliance.
    • Ensure material and component reference numbers are correctly recorded for traceability.
    • Support investigations into manufacturing issues by providing accurate measurement data.
    • Assist with third-party inspections and internal inspection activities.
    • Maintain inspection equipment and ensure measuring equipment is used correctly.
    • Maintain a clean, organised and safe inspection/work area in line with 6S principles.

    The Person
    • We are looking for someone who is practical, technically minded and confident using precision measurement equipment.
    • Confident using equipment such as micrometres, callipers, verniers and gauges.
    • Ability to accurately measure engineering components and work to tight tolerances.
    • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
    • Good understanding of engineering/manufacturing processes.
    • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach.
    • Good numeracy and communication skills.
    • Ability to identify issues and communicate findings clearly to production teams.
We are particularly interested in candidates who are comfortable picking up a micrometer or bore gauge and physically inspecting a component, rather than candidates whose background is predominantly quality systems, auditing or QC administration.
