How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Deputy Manager – Children’s Residential Care

    Location: Milton Keynes
    Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 per year
    Hours: 40 hours per week

    About the Role

    Our client is seeking an experienced and motivated Deputy Manager to support the Registered Manager with the day-to-day leadership and management of a children’s residential home in Milton Keynes.

    The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring children and young people receive safe, nurturing and high-quality residential childcare, particularly those with emotional, behavioural and complex needs.

    They will support the Registered Manager with safeguarding, staff management, regulatory compliance and quality assurance, helping create a positive environment where children and young people can thrive and achieve positive outcomes.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Support the Registered Manager with the effective day-to-day running of the children’s home.

    * Deputise for the Registered Manager in their absence.

    * Lead, motivate, supervise and develop the residential care team.

    * Lead shifts and oversee staffing levels and rotas.

    * Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people.

    * Ensure high-quality, child-centred care is provided in line with individual care plans.

    * Support care planning, risk assessments and behaviour support plans.

    * Promote positive behaviour and support young people with challenging or complex needs.

    * Maintain accurate records, reports and documentation.

    * Ensure safeguarding procedures, policies and regulatory requirements are followed.

    * Support compliance with the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015 and Ofsted requirements.

    * Contribute to audits, quality assurance and continuous service improvement.

    * Build effective relationships with families, social workers, local authorities and other professionals.

    * Participate in the management on-call rota and work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.

    About You

    The successful Deputy Manager will have:

    * Previous experience as a Senior Residential Support Worker, Team Leader, Deputy Manager or similar leadership role within children’s residential care.

    * A Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare / Children & Young People, or equivalent.

    * Strong knowledge of safeguarding and child protection.

    * Experience managing safeguarding concerns, risk and challenging situations.

    * Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills.

    * The ability to lead, motivate and support a residential care team.

    * A genuine passion for improving outcomes for children and young people.

    * Good IT, administration, recording and report-writing skills.

    * Full UK driving licence.

    Desirable

    Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare, or willingness to work towards it.

    Experience supporting children and young people with emotional, behavioural or complex needs.

    Knowledge of trauma-informed care or Positive Behaviour Support (PBS).

    Experience with staff supervision, mentoring and professional development.

    Experience supporting Ofsted inspections, audits or quality assurance.
