How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Project Co-ordinator
    Westminster and Kensington & Chelsea

    About Us

We’re Open Age, the charity empowering all older people in London to stay active, stay curious and stay connected.

We believe feeling supported as part of a community is the key to living well for longer – isolation can have a devastating impact on older people, affecting their mental and physical health. Right now, 60% of our members live alone.

    But they are not alone.

Open Age is creating an inclusive community for everyone to take part in enjoyable activities – from art to foreign languages, yoga to walking football – whoever they are and however they choose.

No one else does what we do. For over 30 years, our unique ‘meet, move, learn’ formula has been supporting members to get out of their homes and into our community.

Our goal is to empower all older Londoners to find their purpose and their people, helping them get more out of life at every age.

We are now looking for a Project Co-ordinator to join us on a permanent, part-time basis, working 21 hours per week across three days.

    The Benefits

    - Salary of £26,936 per annum FTE (£16,161 per annum for 21 hours)
    - 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays and one extra day off for your birthday (pro rata)
    - Employer and employee contribution to pension in line with auto-enrolment pension requirements (3% employer contribution)
    - Hybrid working, offering a flexible combination of office and home-based working
    - Access to the Cycle to Work Scheme
    - Employee Assistance Programme
    -Training opportunities
    - An inclusive work environment welcoming people from all backgrounds

This is a rewarding opportunity for an empathetic individual with experience supporting volunteers and working with people from diverse backgrounds to join our inclusive organisation.

You’ll have the chance to make a tangible difference to older people recovering from falls, strokes and illness, helping them rebuild confidence, stay active and feel less isolated whilst regaining their independence and rediscovering a sense of connection and purpose.

What’s more, with hybrid working and just 21 hours spread across three days, you’ll have greater space to balance meaningful work with life outside the role, while still benefiting from training opportunities and a supportive, inclusive culture.

So, if you’re ready to help older people feel stronger, more connected and supported to enjoy life on their own terms, read on and apply today.

    The Role

As a Project Co-ordinator, you will help deliver our Be Active Step-Down Service, supporting isolated older people across Westminster and Kensington & Chelsea to stay active, independent and connected following a fall, stroke or other illness.

Working alongside the Senior Project Co-ordinator, you will co-ordinate referrals and match older people with trained volunteers who will provide motivational companionship and support them to maintain their exercise programme over nine weeks.

You will also recruit, train and support volunteers, providing ongoing supervision and helping them feel confident in their role.

Alongside this, you will undertake the administrative and monitoring activities that keep the service running effectively and connect clients with further Open Age activities and other services when appropriate.

    Additionally, you will:

    - Carry out volunteer interviews, references and DBS arrangements
    - Administer volunteer peer support sessions and expenses
    - Highlight safeguarding concerns where appropriate
    - Maintain accessible and appropriate project communications

    About You

To be considered as a Project Co-ordinator, you will need:

    - Experience of working with volunteers (recruiting, training and supporting)
    - Experience of working with and relating to people from a wide variety of backgrounds
    - Experience of monitoring
    - Knowledge and understanding of the specific issues affecting older people
    - Knowledge of involving people in the design and development of a service
    - An understanding of diversity and equality
    - The ability to demonstrate a warm, positive and empathetic approach
    - An understanding of risk assessment procedures, health & safety and safeguarding issues

Please note, the successful applicant will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check.

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on 1st September 2026.

Interviews will be held on 4th, 7th, and 8th September 2026.

Other organisations may call this role Project Officer, Project Support Officer, Service Co-ordinator, Community Project Co-ordinator, Community Project Officer, Volunteer Co-ordinator, Community Engagement Officer, Community Support Co-ordinator, or Wellbeing Co-ordinator.
