How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Backend Developer, Azure

Mainly remote, occasional travel to Derby
    Up to £425 per day
    Outside IR35
    Initial 3-month contract

We're supporting a business that needs an experienced Backend Developer to join a mature Azure platform team and contribute quickly across live sprint delivery.

This is not a role for someone who needs heavy direction or a detailed brief handed to them for every piece of work. The team needs someone who can pick up requirements, ask the right questions, own their work end-to-end and deliver production-quality code from early in the assignment.

The environment is Microsoft and Azure-led, with a backend platform built around C#/.NET, Azure Functions, Azure API Management, Azure SQL, Service Bus and Azure DevOps.

    What you'll be doing

You'll be responsible for building, enhancing and supporting backend services across a live digital platform. This will include feature delivery, integration work, production support, testing, DevOps activity and working closely with product and technical stakeholders.

You'll be expected to contribute across the full delivery lifecycle, from understanding requirements and shaping the technical approach through to build, test, deployment and operational support.

    Key skills we're looking for

Strong C# / .NET backend development experience
    Azure Functions experience
    Azure API Management
    Azure Service Bus
Azure SQL, including stored procedures, schema changes and performance awareness
Azure DevOps, CI/CD and deployment pipelines
Experience working in Agile Scrum environments
    Strong written and verbal communication
Ability to work independently and own delivery without close supervision

    Useful additional experience

    Terraform, Bicep or ARM templates
    Application Insights / Azure Monitor
    Auth0 or Entra ID B2C
    D365 integration experience
    Logic Apps or Power Automate
Secure API development and OAuth2 / OIDC flows

    Why apply?

This is a good opportunity for a contractor who enjoys proper hands-on engineering, mature Azure environments and roles where they can make an immediate impact.

The client needs someone who can contribute quickly, communicate clearly and take ownership from the first sprint.
