How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    The role

    We're looking for an experienced Head of Building Safety & Remediation to provide senior leadership across one of the most important areas of our Property Directorate.

    This is a significant leadership opportunity. You'll take responsibility for the delivery of building safety and remediation activity across Orbit's portfolio of in-scope buildings, helping us respond to an evolving regulatory landscape while ensuring the safety of our customers remains at the heart of every decision we make.

    This role is part of Property where you'll help us to lead the way investing and maintaining 46,000 homes.

    Building safety has changed significantly in recent years, bringing greater accountability, scrutiny and expectations across the housing and property sectors.

    As our Head of Building Safety & Remediation, you'll have the opportunity to shape that approach.

    Lead the delivery of Orbit's Building Safety requirements across our portfolio.
    Provide senior leadership and oversight of a complex, multi-year building remediation programme.
    Act as a senior operational lead for engagement with the Building Safety Regulator and other relevant regulators and external bodies.
    Provide clear, evidence-based assurance to the Accountable Person, Executive and Board on building safety risk, compliance and remediation.
    Ensure our building safety cases, risk assessments and supporting evidence are robust, accurate and auditable.
    Maintain the integrity of the Golden Thread of information across our higher-risk buildings.
    Lead the governance, performance and financial oversight of our remediation programme.
    Chair Orbit's Expert Technical Panel, ensuring high-quality technical advice informs proportionate and evidence-based decisions.
    Lead, develop and motivate a multidisciplinary team, creating a culture of professional judgement, accountability and continuous improvement.
    Work collaboratively across Property, Finance, Legal, Communications and Regulatory Data to ensure building safety is embedded throughout Orbit.
    Build trusted relationships with customers, contractors, consultants, regulators and other external partners.What you'll bring

    Essential skills

    We're looking for an established senior leader with significant experience across building safety, building remediation, major works or complex capital programmes within a regulated environment.

    You'll combine strong technical and regulatory knowledge with the leadership capability to operate confidently at Executive, Board and regulator level.

    In-depth knowledge of the Building Safety Act, fire safety and associated regulatory frameworks.
    Significant experience leading complex building safety, remediation, major works or capital investment programmes.
    Experience operating within a highly regulated environment and under external scrutiny.
    Strong governance, assurance and risk management capability.
    Experience providing assurance and reporting at Executive and Board level.
    Excellent commercial and financial acumen, including the management of significant multi-year budgets.
    The ability to influence, challenge and build confidence with senior stakeholders, regulators, customers and partners.
    Strong people leadership skills and experience developing high-performing multidisciplinary teams.
    A relevant property qualification or significant equivalent professional experience.Why Orbit?
