How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Steel Fabricator

    Major Recruitment are working with a well-established engineering and fabrication business that has been supporting the UK's energy and infrastructure sectors for almost three decades, we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced fabricator plater to join the team.

    Renowned for their high standards of craftsmanship, flexibility, and commitment to safety, they provide design, fabrication, maintenance, and on-site engineering services across a range of industries, including Power Generation, Power Distribution, Cement and Steel Production, and Major Infrastructure Construction.

    Their work contributes to some of the UK's largest and most recognisable projects, including major rail, energy, and water developments, working alongside leading national contractors and utilities providers.

    Candidates must have proven experience working as a Steel Plater. Ideally, candidates will be apprentice trained, with around 8 years' post-apprenticeship experience preferred, although this is not essential for the right candidate.

    The Role

    As a Steel Plater, you'll be part of a skilled, close-knit team working at the company's Chesterfield site.

    You'll be responsible for carrying out a wide range of plating work, producing high-quality steel structures and components for large-scale industrial and infrastructure projects across the UK.

    The role involves working across structural steel and pipework, with material thicknesses ranging from 1.6mm to 50mm.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Carry out all types of steel plating work
    Work on both structural steel and pipework
    Mark out, cut, position and fit steel plate accurately to specification
    Work with materials ranging from 1.6mm to 50mm thickness
    Read and accurately interpret a wide range of fabrication and engineering drawings
    Take accurate measurements and ensure components are correctly aligned and positioned
    Use a range of hand and power tools, including grinders, drills and cutting equipment
    Prepare components for welding and final assembly
    Work to required quality and safety standards
    Maintain a clean, safe and efficient working environment
    Work closely with the wider team to ensure projects are completed to a high standard and on time

    About You

    We're looking for an experienced Steel Plater who takes pride in their workmanship and has a strong understanding of plating and steelwork.

    You'll bring:

    Proven experience working as a Steel Plater
    Experience working on both structural steel and pipework
    Ability to work with plate thicknesses from 1.6mm to 50mm
    Strong ability to read and interpret fabrication and engineering drawings
    Experience with marking out, cutting, fitting and positioning steel plate
    Ideally apprentice trained or with equivalent industry experience
    Around 8 years' post-apprenticeship experience preferred, but not essential for the right candidate
    Competence using hand and power tools
    Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
    Good understanding of workplace health and safety
    Ability to work independently and as part of a team
