How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Job Role: HGV Class 1 & Class 2 Driver

    Location: Shaftesbury, Dorset
    Salary: £17.64 per hour
    Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
    Hours: Monday to Friday
    Flexitime working pattern (48 hours per week)
    Overtime: 1.5x hourly rate
      
    Role Overview:

    We are recruiting experienced and safety-focused HGV Class 1 & Class 2 Drivers to join a growing environmental services operation based in Shaftesbury.
    As an HGV Driver, you will play a key role in the collection and transportation of hazardous and non-hazardous waste across a variety of customer sites. Operating Class 1 and Class 2 vehicles, including vacuum tankers, you will ensure all collections and deliveries are completed safely, professionally and in line with regulatory requirements.

    Key Responsibilities:

    HGV Driving & Transport Operations

    Operate HGV Class 1 and Class 2 vehicles safely and efficiently
    Drive and operate vacuum tanker vehicles as required
    Complete collections and deliveries across customer sites
    Manage routes effectively to meet operational deadlines and customer requirements
    Adhere to drivers’ hours regulations and transport legislation
    Ensure all journeys are completed safely and professionally Vehicle & Equipment Management

    Carry out daily vehicle inspections and defect reporting
    Ensure vehicles are maintained in a safe, clean and roadworthy condition
    Complete all transport and operational documentation accurately
    Report any maintenance or compliance issues promptly
    Maintain vehicle compliance in accordance with company and legal requirements Operational Support

    Assist loaders and operational teams when vehicles are stationary
    Support waste handling activities where required
    Work closely with site teams to ensure efficient service delivery
    Participate in operational and environmental service activities as required Health, Safety & Compliance

    Maintain full compliance with health, safety and environmental procedures
    Handle hazardous and non-hazardous waste safely and appropriately
    Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with ADR regulations and company procedures
    Promote a positive safety culture across all operational activities
    Report incidents, hazards and near misses appropriately Customer Service

    Provide a professional and courteous service at all times
    Build positive working relationships with customers and site personnel
    Act as a professional ambassador for the business
    Resolve operational issues effectively and professionally   
    Essential Criteria:

    Minimum 12 months' experience driving HGV Class 1 and/or Class 2 vehicles
    Valid HGV (C) Licence
    Driver CPC qualification
    Digital Tachograph Card
    ADR Licence
    Experience operating road tankers and vacuum tanker vehicles
    Strong knowledge of transport compliance and driver regulations
    Good communication and customer service skills
    Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
    Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
    Physically fit and able to undertake manual duties where required   
    Desirable Criteria:

    Experience within the environmental, waste management or industrial services sector
    Experience handling hazardous waste streams
    Knowledge of vacuum tanker operations and drainage services
    Experience working within time-sensitive operational environments
